• UK largest region for both Food and Drink and Chemicals production

• Produces 7.03m tonnes of commercial and industrial waste & 10.4m tonnes of construction & demolition waste

• SMEs produce 77% of the regions commercial waste and recycle over 67%

• In 2007 the region was responsible for of 57m T/CO2e emissions down from 63m T/CO2e in 1990

VISION for 2020 Achieve a more productive, resource-efficient, low

carbon Northwest by 2020 through continuous economic and social progress that makes best use of resources to meet the needs and aspirations of the Northwest for a better quality of life.

INDICATORS •a reduction in tonnes of CO2 emissions per unit of GVA against a 2006 baseline of 0.53;•a reduction in the waste produced per unit of GVA against the 2006 baseline of 2.71 tonnes (per 10 units of GVA).

Value for Money

The ENWORKS programme has delivered annual savings of:

•£100 million,

•303,301 tonnes of CO2,

•4.2 million m3 of water and •3.1 million tonnes of materials•As of Dec 09 for every £1 invested £11 savings were identified
