Possessive AdjectivesPossessive adjectives tell you who ownssomething or describes a relationshipbetween two people or things.

In Spanish, possessive adjectives agree innumber with the nouns they describe.

Remember that the possessive adjectiverefers to the person(s) or thing(s) beingpossessed, not the possessor.

Possessive AdjectivesThere are both singular and pluralpossessive adjectives, just like regularadjectives:

Es mi libro. It is my book.

Son mis libros. They are my books.

Singular Possessive Adjectives(describe singular things that people/things possess)

Sutheir/all of your

Suhis/her/it’s/your

Vuestro (a)y’all

Tuyour

Nuestro (a)our

Mimy

Plural Possessive Adjectives(describe plural things that people/things possess)

Sustheir/all of yours

Sushis/her/it’s/your

Vuestro (as)y’all’s

Tusyour

Nuestros (as)our

Mismy

The adjectives nuestro(a) and vuestro(a)must also agree in gender with the nounsthey describe.

Ejemplos:

If you need to emphasize, substitute theadjective with:

de + pronoun or the person’s name

Es su tío. Es el tío de él.

de usted, él, ellade nosotros (as)de vosotros (as)

de ustedes, ellos (as)
