Dreams (Beds) - Junior Graphic DesignerDreams is the largest bed retailer in the UK. Working as a graphic designer at Dreams has given me great confidence in my professional ability. It has also helped me develop a well rounded knowledge of how web and marketing work together within a business.
My role was to inject a fresh and innovative mindset into a traditional in house design team. Through online and instore channels it was important to keep communication consistent and clear. During my time, I created: Web pages, store point of sale, conference branding, tickets, mobile pages, internal magazines, videos of brands and email templates.

Kingfisher App2 week design sprint
Visual search has been tested by search engines and retailers alike. For example, Asos launched a visual search option on its app for iOS devices in 2017, to help shoppers that are looking for similar styles. AI took visual search to the next level.
eBay launched a AI -powered Image Search that allows to delve into a catalogue of 1.1 billion items using a photograph. Recently, fashion retailer Forever 21 launched a AI -powered visual search. The visual search and navigation function enable shoppers to search for items and will appear in a special part of their profiles. In this way Forever 21 will have a clear idea of the style of its shoppers and will be able to make relevant suggestions.
The Home Depot store associates are using the visual search tool on its app to help customers find and located hardware in the aisle. Visual search for staff applications and tools, are being used for internal product lookup. For example, at Neiman Marcus visual search lets a member of the staff, explore historical sales and data about a product.

For years, AI has been labelled as the “next big thing” to revolutionise most industries - and that, of course, includes the retail industry. This has led to a large number of retailers rolling out AI -focused products, such as Chatbots with highly personalised recommendations, which are quickly becoming commonplace in customer support channels.
Zalando has partnered with Google to launch a chatbot designed specifically for gift shopping. Users are asked a series of questions before being presented with a list of available items on Zalando’s website.
Beyond Chatbots, global beauty manufacturer Coty has teamed up with Amazon to launch Let’s Get Ready, a voice driven beauty service on Amazon Echo This aims to create a frictionless digital beauty experience by providing on -demand beauty recommendations and tutorials, tailored for each individual.
AI also holds potential in a number of other areas too, such as dynamic pricing, inventory management and driving operational efficiency within the supply chain.

Kingfisher is the largest home improvement retail company in Europe. They approached SPARCK to get a second opinion on the functionality and design of their in-store colleague app. We had two weeks to showcase latest technology trends whilst combining new features with an attractive user interface.
The client was concerned that colleagues were not enjoying using the app. My challenge was to combine ideas like gamification with staff benefits to generate a higher use rate.

We held staff interviews to develop a set personas of different roles within store. In this case we found the challenges of the personas to be particularly useful when designing the wireframes as it directly targeted the issue of why many colleagues don’t use the app.
Working from the UX researchers wireframes, I applied some gamification principles and modern UI trends to encourage colleagues to continue to use the app.

Vocalink engaged SPARCK to support them with the redesign of the web front-end for theirBACS B2B service. I was chosen to provide user experience and user interface expertise to allow them, to better understand their users and design solutions that meet their needs.

Vocalink International2 week design sprint
Vocalink a Mastercard company engaged SPARCK to support them to explore redesigning their current International Payment Services (IPS) frontend during a 2-week rapid design sprint. My role as a creative designer was to provide UX / UI expertise to develop a clickable prototype that Vocalink International could use during demos with their potential clients.
Due to the limited timeframe, the sprint focused on the Landing Page and one journey (Inquiries) for a single user group (Scheme Operators) to explore the art of the possible and to provide an indicator for the future direction of the overall service.
I undertook a Design Thinking approach, with two important characteristics: - A fast paced overview of needs of users by interviewing and researching with experts from the client.- An understanding of the proxy user pain points, in order to identify and design appropriate solutions that can address their needs.

EDF Energy4 week design project
EDF approached SPARCK with a particular idea in mind. I worked in a team of 3 product designers to bring this idea to life. We spent the first 3 weeks working closely with the key stakeholders. I was responsible to lead some workshops related to best design practices and trends. In other workshops I was constantly learning from other designers on how conduct user research. We all adhered to a flexible agile framework.
We worked closely with our developers to help rapidly produce coded prototypes. This handover process to developers was something I found really interesting. Working closely with developers from SPARCK has helped me gain experience and knowledge for when I have needed to transfer designs to developers from different companies.

SPARCK Rebrand4 week internal project
I was faced with the internal challenge to rebrand our consultancy (SPARCK).
My method was to use our trusted and loved design thinking process. I kicked off research by sending a survey out to gather colleagues thoughts and perception of our company. After analysing the responses and highlighting common phrases and words I created 3 mood board of different design styles.
I then ran workshops across the 5 different offices in the UK, running different exercises to capture thoughts and ideas. I asked people to rate the different routes out of 10 for the most used words to summarise SPARCK. E.g innovation, creativity, clever, adaptive etc.
Finally I created a new logo, Keynote templates, and social media assets.

Dreams Print ProjectsDreams Beds - Print
I worked as a graphic designer for the UK’s leading bed retailer. During this time I created a variety of web and print work.
I was able to use graphic design principles learnt at university to create compelling and structured print publications. During my 15 months at Dreams I redesigned the internal monthly publication, branded 2 yearly conferences and created customer facing print in stores.

Truth & LiesUniversity - 8 week Final Major Project
Truth and Lies was my final major project at University. I focused on a particular event ‘The Hillsborough disaster’, which took place in 1989 and caused 27 years of pain and suffering for those affected. The Truth is a Journal that informs readers of the way in which law enforcement officers twisted and manipulated the truth, which resulted in the publishing of cold lies.
To create the typeface effect I initially asked a set of students to write a truth down they want to be kept secret. I then asked them to do everything they could to cover up, manipulate and distort the truth. The results were really interesting and eventually inspired me to create this piece of work.
This project went on show at the D&AD New Blood Festival 2016
