Five key reminders
Five steps process
1. Enjoy! No new pain.
2. Make eye contact and interact lots.
3. Just laughter, no talking.
4. Act it out: fake is fine.
5. Be enthusiastic.
1. Tell: who, what, why.
2. Show: group practice of clapping, breathing and 5 key reminders.
3. Do (laughter workout): introduce each exercise by telling and showing what it is. Then do it.
4. Laughing meditation: sit down (chair or floor) and alternate silence and free form laughter.
5. Debrief and wrap up.
1. Laughter handshake: laugh as you shake hands with people to greet them.
2. Laughter hands shake: Lift your left hand up and laugh as you shake it vigorously for 20
seconds or so. Relax, then lift the right hand up and do the same. Relax, then lift both hands up
and do the same.
3. Body wake-up laughter: Laugh as you gently slap your body. Start on the left at the shoulder
going towards the hand with the palm facing up, and come back towards your body slapping the
bottom of your extended arm. Go down the left side and the outside of the left leg using both
hands, then come back up the inside of that leg, slap your lower and upper abdomen and left
chest. Repeat on the right side.
4. Mechanical laughter pump: This exercise has three parts. Show the example and ask people
to follow your lead. (1) Laugh in "Ho Ho's" as you make circular motions with the arms and hands,
as if turning the wheels of your bicycle. Start slow then pick up speed. (2) Laugh in "Ha Ha's" as
you move your arms up and down in front of you. Again, start slow and progressively pick up
speed. (3) Laugh in "Hee Hee's" as you push and pull your hands in front of you, slowly at first and
progressively faster.
5. Bicycle laughter: laugh as you ride on an imaginary bicycle. Try to lift one hand up, then two.
Then close one eye, then both!
6. Dusting laughter: while laughing, remove dust from your own clothes, an imaginary shelf (the
higher the shelf, the better), or each other's clothes. If doing this as a group exercise, try to act
together as a cleaning team.
7. Bavarian laughter dance: slap one knee and say HA! Slap the other knee and say HA! Lean
forward, slowly raise and lower one hand as you make an extended "aeeee" sound, then using
both hands slap your knees several times in rapid succession and laugh as you hop around.
8. Lasso laughter: play with an imaginary lasso. Chant an extended "aeee" sound as you make
circles with one hand above your head, then laugh as you throw it and pull something back.
9. Electric shock laughter: imagine that everything you touch gives you a shock of static
electricity. Chant an extended "aeee" sound as you approach one finger to your target, then jump
backward and laugh each time you touch it.
10. Laughter shampoo: laugh as you lather up you hair and rinse.
11. Whipped cream pie laughter: Chant an extended "aeee" sound each time you lean forward
and pick up an imaginary whipped cream pie, then laugh as you throw it in someone's face and
trying the best
you can to avoid being hit yourself.
12. Silent laughter: laugh silently, mouth closed, with compression.
