4:10 P.M. At what time did she begin baking?
As you can see, I intend to have students color-code the flaps so that the starting times (in both the graphic and the word problem) are highlighted in yellow, the ending times are highlighted in pink, and the elapsed times are highlighted in green. After each flap has been color-coded, students will lift the flap and draw a timeline to determine the answer to the word problem.
Top flap: Students must determine the elapsed time.
Middle flap: Students must solve to find the ending time.
Bottom flap: Students must identify the starting time.
