“I’ve used TIMAC AGRO Calseazinc+ and Calseanature+ blocks for about 10 years now, I’ve found them very beneficial for the livestock health with support of the trace elements in the blocks. The sheep and cattle seem to self ration on the blocks, and don’t over consume and because of this it makes the blocks good value for money compared to products heavily enhanced with molasses.” Richard Weeks, Dawlish
“I have used the Calseacalver+ on my dry cows now since October 2017 and in that time I have found them to be palatable yet long lasting and more weather resistant than the market rival they replaced. Since using these blocks we have seen a marked reduction in milk fever cases and retained cleansings which was why I tried them in the first place.” Oliver Bolitho, St Buryan
“I was using Actisan annually, and last year I tried to change to a different product. This was a mistake - as cell counts spiked, I have gone back to Actisan - as there is no competition - all cell counts are down with less infection within the cows.” Mr Hannam, WW Hannam & Sons, Dorset
“I have been using Actisan for almost 12 years and it does the job. I have 11 years “Supreme Bonus” with Dairy Crest and re-ceived the Bronze cow award for milk quality and currently in Band A. The cell counts are significantly reduced, with bac-toscans regularly below 90. I apply Actisan 3 times a week onto the mats with chopped straw and the cows are healthier and cleaner because of it.” John, Ladford Farm, Devon

Introduction
Livestock require a balanced amount ofminerals and trace elements to achieve optimum performance. A slight imba-lance can result in a deficiency which can impact on the health, welfare and performance of the animal. Correcting these imbalances when they occur can be expensive, but more importantly the animals’ health or performance will have suffered.
The mineral and trace element requi-rements for each animal can change on a daily basis due to stress, weather, age or stage of production. This is why a free access self-regulating block of-fers a cost effective solution.
Livestock do not receive everything they need from forage alone so the-refore need access to supplementary minerals as one slight deficiency could result in a reduction of productivity.
The mineral and trace element supple-mentation plan for a specific group of animals must be reviewed on a routine basis with the nutritional adviser. It is important to assess the total contribu-tion from all types of feed.
Farmers today produce 50% more from their land than they did 40 years ago; meaning that today’s crops have a lower nutrient value than they had historically.
“Livestock require a balanced amount of minerals and trace elements to achieve optimum performance.”
Minerals in general
As productivity is key to any profitable enterprise it is important not to underestimate mineral deficiencies and the impact it can have on the health and welfare of the stock. The table
shows the elements that when limited, can present unwanted symptoms. This can help when selecting the elements required when specific symptoms are present.

Mineral related deficiencies
The Calseabloc range is based on sodium which ensures that the animals self-regulate their consumption to their need. This means the blocks are cost effective as livestock will only take what they require and do not over consume.Calseagrit (refined calcified seaweed) and Biotech (an extract of brown algae) are two unique ingredients which are included within the range to condition the rumen and maximise mineral intake.
The average consumption
Cow 60g / head / day
Sheep 10g / head / day
SodiumSodium is the only major element for which ruminants have a specific appetite and adjust their consumption to the need. This means that ruminant animals self-regulate on sodium based products and therefore will not over feed. This is the fundamental principle behind Calseabloc range.
Sodium also:• acts as the delivery mechanism
of less palatable nutrients such as magnesium, phosphorus and other trace elements.
• stimulates licking to increase salivation which will improve the rumen fermentation process.
• encourages appetite to improve forage dry matter intake.
“Did you know…If all is working sufficiently well within the diet a dairy cow can produce 300 litres of saliva per day containing around 3.5kg of Sodium Bicarbonate (rumen buffer).” Source: Dairy Research and Technology Centre
CalseablocRange
Calseagrit - Calcified Seaweed
Biotech - Brown Algae
Calseagrit, one of the ingredients in Calseabloc range is the finest part of calcified seaweed which is farmed off the coast of Brittany, then dried and refined. It is 100% natural, contains 32% calcium, 1.5% magnesium and 32 trace
elements. Calseagrit also acts as a powerful pH buffer due to its high po-rosity. This feature aids to enhance fo-rage digestibility and promote a posi-tive environment for rumen micro-flora development.
Also in the Calseabloc range is Bio-tech, an extract of brown seaweed that is collected of the coast of Brit-tany, it is also 100% natural. Biotech is rich in energy and protein and provides the nutritional and physical support for
rumen bacteria to develop to optimise their performance. The inclusion of this component also contributes to an improved absorption of minerals and trace elements.
collecte en mer réessuyage séchage criblage micronisation Collected from Draining Drying Screening Micronisation the sea
Calseagrit is obtained by drying, screening and micronising the Lithotamnium flower in an exclusive process
Feeding ofcalseablocs
Calseablocs are best placed near, but not next to water and should be around 1.5m - 1.8m off the ground for cattle and can be placed on or near
the ground for sheep. This elevated placement will help optimise salivation which will support the rumen buffering.
It is also a good idea for the blocks to be placed in holding, waiting areas, gate ways etc. We recommend that there is a block for every 20-30 cattle and 50-60 sheep to enable them to all have access.
Heavy duty metal holder:This heavy duty metal folder has been de-signed for the 15kg Calseabloc. The holder has been pre drilled to enable it to be fixed to a wall or a post. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Plastic wall holder:This plastic wall holder has been designed for the 15kg Calseabloc. The holder includes drain points to prevent water damage to the blocks. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use and should be fixed to a wall or post.
Pasture holder:The Calseabloc pasture holder is a fully por-table unit for field use. It has been designed so it can be easily moved on a daily basis to help prevent poaching.
We recommend the use of an appropriate block holder to support a regular intake and offer protection from damage and wastage.
We are able to provide a free holder with qualifying orders. Please ask your TIMAC AGRO nutritionist

What’s Sodium Base ? • Under high pressure, Sodium Chloride has crystallisation properties ➜ formation of a stone ➜ the ability to trap other elements• Sodium is the only mineral element for ruminants which has a specific
appetite• Ruminant regulates itself - they have a limit to the amount of sodium
consumed during licking• Sodium is essential for the production and osmotic equilibrium of the
body
Benefits of Sodium Base• Indispensable to digestion and production• Stimulates licking and salivation ➜ Production of endogenous buffer ➜ Recycling of urea and phosphorus ➜ Stress relief for animals• Automatic consumption according to the requirements, seasons and
inputs of the diet: no wastage• Formulation of stable and resistant products
Self-regulationand salivation

Importance of trace elements
Sodium: maintains fluid balance within the animal, vital for cell function and absorbtion of other minerals. A deficiency can cause digestive pro-blems which can impair animal performance.
Calcium: the most abundant mineral element in the animal and involved in many vital functions, mainly directed towards the skeleton, nervous system and milk production. A lack of calcium can effect production, growth and bone development or result in a metabolic disorder such as milk fever.
Phosphorus: involved in energy metabolism and regulation so has an im-portant role to support fertility, milk production and body condition. Phos-phorus also aids the bone and muscle development of youngstock.
Magnesium: important for bone development and the prevention of grass staggers. Often referred to as the anti-stress mineral as a deficienty can result in lameness issues, high cell count, low reproductive performance and general poor health.
Zinc: key to maintain healthy skin, wool, hair and horn. It is an important component for immune system function. A deficiency can result in lameness issues, high cell counts, low reproductive performance and general poor health.
Manganese: is important for fertility, growth and bone development
Copper: is required for fertility, energy utilisation and immunity. A copper imbalance will impact on the overall health of the animal. Copper can be TOXIC if fed to sheep.
Iodine: a key compponent of the thyroid hormones which control the rate of energy metabolism within the body. A deficiency can impair fertility, pro-duce weak lethargic calves/lambs or impede the semen quality of rams/bulls.
Cobalt: required by the rumen organisms to produce vitamin B12, vital for energy metabolism. A deficiency can cause a depressed appetite resulting in reduced growth rates.
Selenium: important for immunity and fertility and can impact new born viability. A diet deficient in selenium can result in weak, lethargic newborn, with muscle disease, unthriftiness, weigh loss and diarrhoea.
Vitamin E: acts as an antioxidant within the body and is central to membrane formation, muscle structure and muscle function. A crucial component for the immune system.
