Chapter Dinner and

Lutheran Choir

Ahreum Han will present a recital with

works by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Karg-Elert,

Vierne, Offenbach, Johannes Matthias

Michel, and Max Reger. This event is

sponsored by the Central Iowa Chapter

in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul,

815 High Street, Des Moines, IA on Sun-

day, March 6 at 4:00 P.M. See Han’s

Bio on PAGE 2.

Members of the Central Iowa Chapter gathered

on February 20 at Old Maine’s Brewing Compa-

ny for a chapter-sponsored dinner. After dining

and socializing, members moved to the First

United Methodist Church to hear David Cher-

wien and the National Lutheran Choir

amaze listeners with whimsical organ improvisa-

tion, impeccable blend, and powerful diction. A

$500 donation from the chapter helped to bring

the choir to Iowa for the concert. It centered on

the liturgical texts of the Psalms and the im-

portance of spirituals with poetic reflection and

congregational singing throughout.

University, Jack Singer Hall in Calgary, Michealskirche in Leipzig, Germany, Oxford Town Hall (UK), Nottingham

Albert Concert Hall (UK), and Esplanade Hall in Singapore. Her performances have been featured on the radio

show PIPEDREAMS. Ahreum is presently the Principal Organist, Assistant Director of Music, and Artist-in-

Residence at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, Iowa.

The Central Iowa Chapter recently made a financial contribution to Iowa Public Radio in support of

their reinstatement of Pipedreams. Chapter Dean, Michael Stefanek, sent the gift along with a letter. He

emphasized the appreciation and importance of the radio show writing: “On behalf of the Central Iowa

Chapter of the American Guild of Organists I want to express our extreme gratitude to you and the

management for the return of the program, Pipedreams, on Iowa Public Radio...This program is a great

blessing to have for organists, organ enthusiasts, and choral music enthusiasts. We strongly encourage

the continuance of this unique program for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy.”
