The Perry Christian First Christian Church Disciples of Christ
Hello First Christian Church of Perry, Oklahoma!!! I am so excited to begin this adven-
ture with you. I must say from the bottom of my heart how much I appreciated all the ef-
fort getting the parsonage ready for our arrival. Thank you to the CWF for the lovely gift
basket and the goodies, not to mention the Deep cleaning you all did to the parsonage. I
don’t need to tell you how amazing your property committee is but I will! They were so
accommodating with my kids and my wife! I will never be able to express my gratitude
enough for everything you did to welcome us to Perry. Finally, to the search committee
who are the reason I am here, I loved every minute we spent together and cannot wait to
see what we do in the future.
I thought I would begin our weekly conversations by telling you a little about my family.
My wife Carman is from Lavaca Arkansas which is East of Fort Smith, Arkansas. She and
I met at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma while we
were in the Marching Bulldogs. I fell in love with her immediately and she eventually ac-
quiesced and allowed me to be her boyfriend and eventually her husband. My father per-
formed the wedding at the First Christian Church of McAlester, Oklahoma on May 24th,
1998. She is an Accountant and frankly is smarter than me. She is my best friend, my soul
mate, my cheerleader and a great partner as we raise our two children Madeline and Quin-
ton. Madeline is my 13-year-old and she is pretty amazing. She loves Wonder Woman (no
I mean it…LOVES Wonder Woman), basketball, band, and her dachshunds Harley and
Pepper. She enjoys discussing the differences between the protagonists in DC and Marvel
comics and how they are similar. Which leads to me to Quinton our 7-year-old Lego
builder extraordinaire. If you had any questions about Transformers, Legos, Minecraft,
Power rangers, or anything about Iron Man he will tell you all you ever needed to know.
He loves creating and designing “more efficient” Lego buildings while playing games!
Finally, Harley and Pepper who allow us to take care of them. Harley and Pepper, our
dogs, pretty much own us.
Over the next few months my goals are simple: 1. Get to know you. I will be doing this by
having listening conferences that I would like for you to sign up for. They will be Monday
- Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at either the church or someplace of your choosing. I will also
have Monday and Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. for those that work. They should last about an
hour. The goal with this is basically interviewing and getting to know you. These sign-up
sheets will be outside the office in a few weeks. The ultimate goal is to meet with every
single person in the directory before Christmas. 2. I am wanting to meet with each of the
committees between now and the next Board meeting mainly so that I can get an idea of
what you have planned and what you are dreaming about. 3. We will be looking ahead as
we discuss First Christian Church’s mission especially regarding worship (Christmas is
right around the corner), families (Sunday school? etc… 4. I am a teacher and I will start
to stress out if I am not teaching something so part of what I will be listening for is what I
should we be teaching outside of Worship? I love to have bible studies in the congrega-
tions that I serve and I will be looking at where and when can I put those in the lineup at
the church.
Long story short, I am wanting to get to know and you and this congregation. I
will be spending a great deal of time trying to get to know as much as possible in the com-
ing weeks. I hope you are as excited as I am to see what God has in store for First Chris-
tian Church in Perry, Oklahoma.
Shalom, Joshua Bell

THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for all the cards, notes,
gifts, meal, and many other expressions of
gratitude which you shared with me on my
final Sunday as your Interim Pastor. Most of
all I am grateful for your prayers, encourage-
ment, and help during the time I was your
Interim. Keep me in your prayers as my wife
Kathy and I go to serve as interim ministers
at Central Christian Church in Enid. Please
give your New Minister, Rev. Joshua Bell,
your prayers and dedication which you gave
to me and my leadership. I will always cher-
ish our time together and I will keep First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in my
heart and prayers.
In Gratitude, Interim Pastor Don
Brick By Brick
A Brick Is Forever. . . .
We have an ongoing project
of filling a sidewalk running
north and south on the west
side of the church’s educa-
tion building with personal-
ized bricks. Several people
have marked their place in
Perry First Christian Church
history by engraving a brick
in the name of a loved one or
commemorating a
special event.
