THE FOUR-WAY TEST Is it the TRUTH? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY The OBJECT of ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recogni-tion of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and dignifying of each Ro-tarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life. FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Thank you, Father,
for the gift of Rotary and each other.
we give thanks for the pleasure of gathering
together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food prepared
by loving hands.
We give thanks for life, the freedom to enjoy it all,
and all other blessings.
As we partake of this food, we pray for health and
strength to carry on and try to live as You would have
us. This we ask in the name of Christ, Our Heavenly
Father.
Amen.

Hello all and welcome to our 6th regular meeting of RY 2014-2015.
Our last meeting featured Dr. Barbie Wong-Fernandez, who gave us an
enlightening talk on the issues surrounding the current K-12 implementa-
tion. From all accounts, her talk was very well received, and it does help
our educational projects going forward. Interestingly enough, it was a
time of renewed connections as well, as PE John was once her ward
at UP. This resulted in an invitation for PN John to speak at the
Philippine Foreign Student’s Association. Small world indeed.
We also had our first celebrant’s night held at Calderon restaurant. Although it was a very wet night,
we had 20 members and spouses in attendance, and it was a good time of fellowship, gossip, and a
certain “induction dance” video. At that meeting, and after plying us Rotarian males with much food
and beer, the spouses committee volunteered to take over the planning and organization of future
celebrant nights and holiday occasions. This is a fantastic offer, which our club quickly accepted.
Celebrants’ nights are now planned for the first Friday evening of the month, celebrating our birth-
days and occasions for the previous month, with a few exceptions. Notably, the mooncake festival is
now marked on our calendar. This is tentatively set for September 13. Details are to be announced.
Our club sent a sizeable delegation to the RC Bagumbayan and RC Greater Mandaluyong inductions,
and District Interact Chair PP Herman, along with Cluster Chair PP Mark organized a very success-
ful District Interact Assembly held on Saturday, August 2. Three of our interact clubs participated.
Likewise, the Interact Club of MPNAG, and the Rotaract Clubs of RTU both held their inductions on
July 22 and August 6 respectively. We sent delegations to those events as well, as we sponsor those
clubs. Lastly, our first board meeting of the Rotary year was held on August 5. I’ll present the out-
come of this meeting at our club assembly on August 15, so please save the date.
We begin our district zone project this August 16 with a container-garden seminar. You’ll see the
event flyer inserted, and the invitation letter printed, in this issue. Do support this worthwhile cause;
I’ll be devoting this meeting to explaining what this is about. The Best Class President’s Zone 8
team has also begun to meet and conceptualize our participation in the district flagship project on
People with Disabilities.
There is a lot going on as we strive to “LIGHT UP ROTARY.” Do keep in step by checking our
calendar at www.facebook.com/rcmandaluyong. Not a facebook member or just too long? Just use
our shortened links:

Hello Fellow Rotarians! We are on our six regular meeting of our
Club in RY 2014-2015. To those who were away on business or on
vacation, a warm welcome back. We are glad to have you join us
for today’s meeting and fellowship here at Crowne Plaza.
August promises to be a very busy month for the young and not-so-
young Rotarian.
ROTARY 101 is scheduled tomorrow, Saturday 9 August 2014.
Training will be held at the Department of Education Complex in
Pasig and it starts at 1 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the fresh faces of Rotary
District 3800 Zones 6, 7, and 8 as well as to learn the fundamentals of our world-class or-
ganization. Hope to see you there!
Pres. Gion recently sent out an invitation via email to our home zone’s GROW YOUR OWN
ORGANIC KITCHEN GARDEN on 22 August 2014, Saturday from 1-5 PM in the Blue
Building in Mandaluyong City Hall. What a great opportunity to bring the family to partici-
pate in this event. This is perfect for those who have a penchant for the culinary arts and
would like to source only the freshest ingredients from your own backyard. Apparently, hav-
ing a green thumb is not a requirement.
Our first joint meeting will be on Wednesday 20 August 2014 at 6 PM with the RC Manda-
luyong East at the Valle Verde Country Club. Our guest speaker will discuss cyber security
and how to protect yourself, your family and your business from threats in cyberspace. This
will be the first of a number of joint meetings we plan throughout the year as Pres. Gion
mentioned in his presentation at the Governor’s Visit.
As Club Secretary, I encourage us all to start inviting future Rotarians to our Club meetings.
We have a wonderful year ahead and it would be a shame to just keep these all to ourselves.
LIGHT UP TOTARY!
Don’t forget to check and LIKE our new Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/

I end with the traditional sign-off from one of my favorite radio programs called the Writer’s
Almanac hosted by Garrison Keillor which is quite apt for the ROTARIAN:
“Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.”

When I Fall In Love
When I fall in love it will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world
like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.
