Coming to Second Baptist Church
September 21, 2017
7:00 PM
Hello SeptemberHello September
From The Holster’s Side
Second Baptist Church
MISSION AND VISION
Section I. Mission
Our mission is to fulfill the Great Commandment (Mark 12:30-31) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) to our church,
community and the world.
Section 2. Vision
Our vision is for every person to find their full potential in Jesus Christ
and to give their full potential for Jesus Christ through witnessing,
teaching and ministering to all.
Welcome once again to the “Holiday Season.” I know
there are still three weeks until summer is officially over, but
let’s face it: School has started, football is in full swing, stores
are full of Thanksgiving stuff, Christmas songs are playing at
the Mall. Yep, summer is over whether we want it to be or not.
But that’s ok. We have some wonderful opportunities
happening here at SBC this time of year.
1. Our Bible Study Classes are beginning a new series
of studies that you will want to be a part of. Scripture
encourages (commands) us to study God’s Word (see 2
Timothy 2:15 & Hebrews 10:25), so come and join with us
each week at 9:45 a.m. as we study and fellowship together.
2. Our Wednesday night Fellowship Meals begin again
on September 6th at 5:45 p.m. You will want to come and
share a great meal, followed by a time of Bible Study, Choir
Practice, and/or Youth and Children’s activities. It’s awesome!
Come join us!!
3. Speaking of Choir, our PraiSing Choir will be
beginning practices for the Thanksgiving/Christmas season on
Wednesday, September 13th, at 6:30 p.m., following the
fellowship meal. Perhaps you would be interested in joining
the choir this year. We would love to have you, and now is a
great time to start.
All these, and more, await you here at SBC. Come, join
us, be a part as we study, serve, worship, and fellowship
together.
Bring your Bible and a friend, and I’ll see you Sunday!
Jon-Roy
P.S. — Attention GLORY BELLES! Practice begins on
Monday, September 18th, at 6:00 p.m. Music is in your folders
if you want to get a head start! Can’t wait to get started!!
Much has happened since the last newsletter. Our state
has been hit with a terrible storm bringing destruction to a multi-
billion dollar amount. There have been some who have been
taken by the floods and have died. Families have been separated
from one disaster relief station to another.
A song written by Ryan Stevenson begins by stating, “In
the eye of the storm You remain in control. And in the middle of
the war, You guard my soul. You alone are the anchor when my
sails are torn. Your love surrounds me in the eye of the storm. (Bryan Fowler, Ryan Dale Stevenson © Songs of Emack, Universal Music) Even though we do not understand, we need to realize
God is in control. It is only through HIS GRACE we can make it
day by day.
We, as a church, purchased water, diapers, wipes,
formula, and batteries to send to First Baptist Church, Corpus
Christi, TX. This is one of the Command Posts for the Red
Cross. $1,000 was used from our Benevolence Fund to pay for
these items. If you would like to help with this relief, please
make a contribution to the Benevolence Fund of Second Baptist
Church.
September is now upon us and we have lots of ministry
opportunities for all ages. Please notice each of these
opportunities in this edition of The Lighthouse.
At 10 AM Tuesday, September 5, you are invited to join
others at the new Fire Station located on 5th Street for a time of
prayer for our Firemen and First Responders. I appreciate our
ladies who have been taking cookies AND PRAYERS to the
Law Enforcement Center to let them know someone cares. Let’s
pray for our firefighters, also.
Now, for some THANK YOU’S … Thank you to Grace
Tidwell for serving as our Summer Youth Minister. She did an
excellent job of serving our youth through Bible study,
fellowships, outreach, camps, and support. Please pray as we
begin the search for a part-time Youth Minister.
I also want to say THANK YOU to Becky Vaughn for
serving as our Church Secretary. She is a blessing to have on our
staff and for the good of the church. She will be celebrating her
first anniversary Wednesday, September 6. THANK YOU,
BECKY.
Finally, the summer schedule has ended and our FALL
Wednesday Night Schedule will begin. This means:
5:45 PM Family Meal
6:15 Prayer
6:30 Bible Studies for
Children, Youth, Adults
PraiSing Choir
Thank you for being a Wonderful Church Family.
From your Shepherd’s heart,
Michael Holster
