Like many other high-rises in the United States, the new Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital omits a 13th floor — a reflection of the “unluckiness” often associated with the number. Also missing is a third floor, ensuring consistent floor numbering

with adjoining floors in Rhodes Hall. And the public won’t see the sixth, seventh or eighth floors because that’s where the building’s extensive mechanical systems are housed.
