The
International
School
Library
Collection
Please allow us to introduce a unique collection of
library titles, aligned, and curated by IB teachers and
librarians from around the world to meet the needs of
your school, teachers and students.
For Your Teachers: All of the titles have been extensively researched and tagged using
IB pedagogy. This allows teachers and students to search the collection using IB
terminology (ATLs, Transdisciplinary Themes, Central Ideas, Learner Profile Attributes,
Learning Attitudes, Key Concepts, International-Mindedness, Global Contexts, etc.). The
collections are perfect for busy teachers wishing to locate just the right titles for their
lessons. Also, social-emotional tags have been applied to support the needs of
Guidance/Pastoral Counselors. Dual language and translatable books support the needs
of your diverse ESL requirements.
For Your Library: Accreditation standards are increasingly focusing on the information
science role and function in international schools. Acquisition of these titles in either print
or digital (or both) will provide the evidence you need to demonstrate understanding of the
librarians role in providing inquiry education and international-mindedness to diverse
constituencies. Whether you are starting from scratch, or wish to integrate with an existing
digital platform we can meld seamlessly with your needs. Showcase your commitment to
the ATLs by being proactive in recommending resources during unit planning. Introducing
this tailor-made collection to your school will position the library at the heart of inquiry
process and further your goal of offering diverse cultural perspectives.
For Management: The physical collection can be purchased in bulk at a steep
discount, or delivered free with a digital subscription. The digital collection uses a simple
subscription model which allows multi-user unlimited access. This is ideal for homework,
library and class use. Also, we customize your installation to match your school’s colors
and logo, thus extending the school’s branding and showing your commitment to digital
education.
For the Student: Not only are the books fun and easy to read, they are available on
any device, at any time. Furthermore, this collection fosters international-mindedness
and cultural diversity. Students of all ages can collaborate on projects and connect in
reading challenges with students, librarians and teachers around the world.
We look forward to having the opportunity to discuss this offer and demonstrate our
commitment to your school. For further details please do not hesitate to contact us.

International-Mindedness: Trending (Students Will Enjoy Having Global Pen Pals)
Multilingualism and intercultural
understanding
For the IB, learning to communicate in
a variety of ways in more than one
language is fundamental to the
development of intercultural
understanding. IB programmes, therefore,
support complex, dynamic learning
through wide-ranging forms of expression.
All IB programmes require students to
learn another language. Intercultural
understanding involves recognizing and
reflecting on one’s own perspective, as
well as the perspectives of others. To
increase intercultural understanding, IB
programmes foster critical appreciation of
many different beliefs, values, experiences
and ways of knowing. The goal of
understanding the world’s rich cultural
heritage invites the IB community to
explore human commonality, diversity and
interconnection.
Global engagement
Global engagement represents a
commitment to address humanity’s
greatest challenges in the classroom and
beyond. IB students and teachers are
encouraged to explore global and local
issues, including developmentally
appropriate aspects of the environment,
development, conflicts, rights and
cooperation and governance. Globally
engaged people critically consider power
and privilege, and recognize that they
hold the earth and its resources in trust for
future generations.

“PYP (including the Early Years) lays the
foundation of International-
Mindedness. It opens the minds of
Teachers, Students and Families
beginning at an early age. When this
focus starts in PYP, carries through MYP,
then into DP, the International-
Mindedness of Students is that much
stronger. It is more broad in thinking, less
narrow minded or superficial. It doesn’t
just skim the surface, it would have had
time to grow in the minds and hearts of
the Students, with the support of their
Teachers and Families, and be very
deeply rooted by time they get to DP.”

International-Mindedness and Global
Citizenship is Built In
Each physical book and ebook
is connected to a global online
community. Teachers can post
projects, see what other children
around the world are doing, and
connect in multiple languages.
The inquiry education concepts of “Reflection and
Action” are supported with a global emphasis. We help
students get involved with other students and projects
around the world.

Library Performance
The breadth of resource provision is a major
component of evaluation within the accreditation
process. Having a matching digital and print library
that meets the needs of students is a plus for access.
Social-emotional, diversity, and international-
mindedness elements are also core features of the
library of the future. Providing Mother-Tongue / First
Language resources for EAL/ELL and multi-language
students further extends the usefulness of the collection.
Good governance requires evidence-based acquisition,
ensuring appropriateness of resources and value for
money.
12
In the era of tight budgets the built in usage reports
are critical. Having a collection that specifically addresses
the needs of teachers, students, and the accreditation bodies
is paramount. Connecting the library to the PYP curricula
brings more usage to the library.
Built By International Library Specialists for the
Real World of Librarians.
13

for us to put
together special
collections in

14
It is very easy to “search” for resources to
support a particular lesson or homework assignment.
The collection is not only tagged with IB pedagogy, it
includes Social-Emotional Tags, International-
Mindedness keywords and more. This is a sample
record from the digital collection. (Do you have a book
on European Folktales yet?)
Easy Retrieval by Teachers
15

the classroom or anywhere in the world. They can be read
on any device from tablets to computers to smart phones..
The digital collection is easily integrated with your
technology or can be used stand-alone.

16
The Teacher and Student Guide for each title
was written by IB trained teachers and educators
following the guidelines and principals of inquiry
educational concepts. The Guides can be used “off the
shelf” or your teachers can customize them for your
particular school. Each Guide also includes a specific
recommendation for a library research
activity to connect!
Teachers Will Love the Prepared Teacher & Student Guides that Go With Each Book.
17
Optional: Support a less fortunate school.
Instill Global Citizenship and International-
Mindedness in your students.
If your school purchases a school license, we can
handle all the details of connecting your students and
your school with a less fortunate school. Their school
will receive a full set of the IB Library resources and will
be able to connect and collaborate on the same ebooks
with your students via our safe and secure inquiry
collaboration site. Teach your students to help others.
18
A Reading Fundraiser Can Boost Your
Library Collection (and Make this
Collection Free):
Our technology conveniently can support a Reading Fundraiser
for your school and library. (In the US, we see about $50 to $100 per
student raised in this manner). Even in a small school of 250 students
this is a significant number and certainly more efficient for your staff than
a book fair. Working closely with your team, we handle all the details,
from providing sign-up forms, to tracking, to payment.
The PYP collection is ready now. The MYP collection is following
closely behind.

Show your teachers the
search terms available. Acquiring
curated resources that pinpoint
the needs of teachers is every
librarians’ dream. While librarians
aim to offer general coverage and
encourage browsing, if the
collection specifically is aligned
with standards, administrators and
teachers will appreciate the
forethought used in bringing a
collection of this sort to the
school. During budget
discussions, this is paramount.
The curated PYP Collection
meets the needs of librarians,
teachers, parents and the
school. The digital and physical

The following points illustrate how the PYP Collection supports elements of
library performance evaluation..
•Ensure that Collection Development is informed and focused. The PYP Collection is focused
specifically on the multicultural needs of K-5 International Schools.
•Demonstrate curriculum knowledge by offering patrons resources to meet their Inquiry needs.
The extent of alignment and curation shows a deep understanding of curriculum knowledge. Further, each
title has numerous inquiry based lessons and exercises in the associated Teacher and Student Guides.
•Showcase the understanding of Information Literacy as one of the cross-curricular Approaches to
Learning (ATLs). Each title is cross-referenced with other titles for cross-curricular activities. Also, teacher
and student guide also has library research projects suggested within.
•Be proactive in collaborative planning with teachers, sharing your resource expertise. We provide the
librarian with numerous ways to bring this collection to the teachers attention. Once the teaching faculty sees
the alignment within the collection, collaborative planning will occur naturally.
•Facilitate speedy access to the information students need for deep understanding of topics. With the
digital collection, we offer immediate keyword searching for further reference on any topic both within our
collection. Not only can students go deeper into their subjects, with our global connections we can provide
deep understandings that include collaboration with students in other countries.
•Boost cultural diversity in the library and be confident that it’s age-appropriate and current.
Approximately 50 countries are connected inside the PYP collection. The grade levels are certified by
teachers and the information is current and timeless.
•Promote reading for pleasure with an import of attractive new titles. Quarterly updates are provided at
no cost to the digital collection. The technology facilitates reading from home, while traveling.. anywhere.!
Reading contests and Reading Fundraisers are promoted throughout the year.
•Use the collection as a focus for promotional events and activities for the school community. The
PYP collection is connected to the world. Through our global connections, we offer numerous opportunities
for helping others, connecting to others, and coming together for global citizenship.
•Attract new library patrons who prefer digital formats. Digital formats are now “a must” for leading
educational institutions. Our digital collection can become the backbone for your digital future, or it can
integrate easily with what you already have.
•Match print and Ebooks to suit your readers’ preferences and learning styles. Not only do our print
books and our ebooks match, we provide numerous ways to connect with the format of the reader’s choice.
•Customise and extend the collection to meet the changing student profile. We offer extensive “custom
collection” services. Whether you need more titles in multiple languages, or more titles in a certain niche, our
special collection department can assist.

Familiar to MYP but new to DP this month. ATLS are:
•· Communication
•· Organisation
•· Information Literacy
•· Problem Solving & Thinking Skills
•· Reflection
•· Collaboration
The student population in an international school is
transient so the schools need to be dynamic and
respond quickly to change.
From year to year, a library will be required to adapt the
Mother tongue fiction collections for example, to reflect
the current population.
