Dear Fairview Families, As you have already heard, the Fairview PTO is sponsoring a Dance-a-Thon on Friday, October 2

nd at Fairview during lunch recess. Unlike a

typical walk-a-thon, students will walk around the school grounds and stop at stations along the way to dance to some of their favorite songs. The purpose of the event is to raise money for our PTO to use on behalf of our students and school. The PTO does an amazing job planning won-derful events, bringing in enriching assemblies, and purchasing items for our school that enhance our instructional program. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our PTO, and hope that you will take some time to participate in making donations or helping your child gather pledges from relatives, friends, or neighbors. If all students raised $25, we will have met our goal and will not need to fundraise again throughout the rest of the year. Please see the flyers that have gone home within the past cou-ple weeks for more details. You can now also receive updates regarding

the Dance-a-Thon via twitter by following @fairview_rocks. Now that we are well underway during this school year, I wanted to take a moment to provide families with a friendly reminder regarding unexcused absences. Based on the District 57 Handbook, students who are absent from school for 10 (consecutive) days unexcused will be unenrolled from school, and upon returning to school, families will need to reprove resi-dency. The reason for informing you of this district-wide practice is to give you a heads up in case you have some family vacations in the plan-ning stages for later in the year. The District 57 Handbook has further information regarding the intent of this practice, as well as other infor-mation about District 57. The handbook can be found under the “Parents” tab on Fairview’s website. Thank you for your cooperation. Each year, the Fairview Building Leadership Team creates a school im-provement plan to help Fairview reach its academic and social/emotional goals for the school year. Last year we established a goal to generate a sense of consistency across the school with regards to use of our card change system of consequences and our Fairview Falcon Award and Character Card rewards for students. Criteria for card changes, Fairview Falcon Awards and Character Cards were developed and shared with staff at the beginning of this year to ensure we are consistently imple-menting our systems of behavioral support. Character Cards are new for students this year. Students may receive a Character Card when a staff member sees that they are consistently following through on our school-wide expected behaviors. These students are entered into a drawing to have lunch with me at my monthly student lunch. They also have their names posted in the foyer, and a note is sent home with them for you to see as well. Our lunchroom does not have

a supply of utensils for stu-dents. If your child has some-

thing in their lunch that re-quires a spoon or fork, please

remember to pack one in their

lunch box.

If possible, please avoid sending glass con-tainers in your student’s lunchbox.

Also, please write your child’s name on their

lunchbox in permanent marker so if it gets

lost, it can easily be returned to him/her.

Our lost and found bin in the multipurpose room is already overflowing. Remind your student to check the bin for a lost sweatshirt, jacket, or anything else they might have lost in the last few weeks.

Our date for taking the stu-dents individual pictures will be Tuesday, October 13. Bright, colorful clothing

looks best. More information will be coming home with the students next week. The school yearbook will be offered for sale in March. Picture retake/absentee day is sched-uled for Tuesday, November 10 .

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES We would like to remind parents that look-alike guns, knives, and other violent objects which may be included with a Halloween costume are not permitted in the school building. If your child’s costume includes items of this nature, please leave them at home for trick-or-treat activi-ties or other family excursions. We must provide the children a consistent message regarding objects which are considered dangerous and it is confusing to allow these items in school for any reason. Students’ costumes should always be age appropri-ate.

Be in the know...District shares information from local organizations District 57 families are fortunate to live in a community that offers so many opportunities for children! Please see the flyer in this week's packet that provides links to information about upcoming registration deadlines and events. The District admin-istration office is pleased to share this information from local organizations.

FROM THE NURSE…. If your child has had a fever or been vomiting they need to re-main home until they are fever free and/or not vomited for 24 hours.

If your child requires medication to be giv-en when he/she returns to school, you must provide the following: 1. An order from the doctor, 2. Parent’s signature on medication form

(obtain from the school nurse), and 3. Medication in original container. All medication, including cough drops, needs to be kept in the Nurse’s office. With this warm weather children are out-side having fun, which I highly encourage. There are many more injuries with flip flops, sandals, and slip-on type shoes at recess. The student directory is now being edited and will be sent home in early October to families who are PTO members (see attached form to join). If you have not submit-ted the Directory form that was

included in the PTO packet that was sent home with each student at the begin-ning of the year, your

student/family will not be listed in

our directory. If you would want your stu-dent/family included in the directory please fill out the attached form and return it to the school office no later than Wednesday, September 30.
