PUBLIC EXHIBITIONFriday 17 April from 12pm to 8pmSaturday 18 April from 10am to 4pm

Invitiation to a public exhibition
Liberty Property Trust is bringing forward plans for Land North of Horsham – a mixed-use and sustainable development providing around 2,500 private and affordable homes supported by jobs, schools, amenities and the necessary infrastructure and utilities.
Our top priority will be to make North of Horsham a great place to live, work and play. We are long-term investors and we will have a stake in the future success of the new community. From building design and landscaping, to public art and high quality sports facilities, we go the extra mile and, where we can, choose to go above and beyond the normal planning requirements.
Liberty is a masterplan developer and will be making an outline planning application for North of Horsham later this summer. We want the local community to help shape our plans by telling us about their priorities for the town.
We are holding a public exhibition to display our draft plans and outline the opportunities that North of Horsham can provide. Our experts will be on hand to answer questions, listen to comments and take a note of concerns. We will use the feedback we receive to help finalise our plans.
Information that is on display at the exhibition will also be available from 12pm on Friday 17 April at: www.landnorthofhorsham.co.uk.
About North of Horsham
North of Horsham has been included in the emerging Horsham District Planning Framework (HDPF) – the Council’s strategic vision for the area.
The HDPF was reviewed by the Government’s Planning Inspector at the end of last year and he endorsed the Council’s decision to include North of Horsham, acknowledging it as a sustainable location for new homes, jobs, social and community facilities.
The Council is currently consulting on final housing numbers to meet the Planning Inspector’s requirements, before adopting the HDPF later this year.

A popular fi sh and chip shop lo-cated down Collets Alley in the Carfax, Horsham caught fi re at around 1pm on Friday, April 3, during the town’s popular Piazza Italia festival.
The deep fat fryer and extractor unit in the kitchen of Deep Blue Fish and Chips caught fi re requiring crews from Horsham, Crawley and Billingshurst to attend the scene.
Rescue workers had diffi culty at-tending the scene and brining in equipment due to the street being closed and blocked by sports cars brought in for the annual Italian themed event.
No injuries were reported and
none of the nearby sports cars were damaged.
Repair work is currently under-way and a statement on the Deep Blue Fish and Chip Shop website states the shop is expected to be closed for a week following the in-cident.
The building was quickly evacu-ated and a cordon was set up around the alley shortly after the incident at around 1.40pm.

Local charity receives donation from Police Property Act Fund
Horsham police have donated £150 to The Butterfl y Project.
Based in Horsham, the Butterfl y Project supports adults with learn-ing diffi culties, autism and other disabilities to engage in work and community activities, to help them develop work and personal skills.
The donation comes from the Po-lice Property Act Fund (PPAF), made
up of monies received by the police from property confi scated by order of the court and then sold.
PC Darren Worsfold said: "We are always happy to support local organisations such as the Butter-fl y Project and I am happy in the knowledge that this money will be spent on developing new initia-tives."
Southwater Parish prepare draft neighborhood plan
The Southwater Parish Neighbour-hood Plan Steering Group is asking Southwater residents and busi-nesses to keep an eye on their let-terboxes, as the Parish Survey is on its way!
It needs as many people as possi-ble to complete this survey as it will help draft the Southwater Parish Neighbourhood Plan.
The right for communities to prepare Neighbourhood Plans was established through the Localism Act 2011, and gives the power to the whole community to develop a shared vision for the future.
Southwater Parish Neighbourhood Plan will form part of the Horsham District Planning Framework; this legal status will carry a lot of weight when considering local issues.
The Neighbourhood Plan Steer-ing Group has been working on the
survey for some weeks now, using ideas that residents suggested at various events held over the past few months. The survey will go to every home in the parish, and includes a section for young people too. Busi-nesses will receive a business ver-sion, so that issues aff ecting the lo-cal economy can also be taken into account.
A Steering Group representative said: “Please take the time to fi ll it in, as we will be using the answers to prepare our draft Plan, which will include suggestions for policies that can be included to protect our community. As an added incentive, those who respond will have the chance to win a prize – details will be on the survey”
If you have any questions, please email us on [email protected], or phone on 01403 733202.

Shoppers in Horsham Town Centre were shocked on Saturday, March 28, when music started play-ing loudly and out of nowhere, 20 dancers appeared and performed a Rueda de Casino style salsa dance.
Rueda as it is known is a style that originated in Cuba and is danced in pairs in a circle, with a caller shout-ing out the names of the moves to dance. The eff ect is a group of seemingly random dancers all in synch. Jon Riley who runs Horsham Salsa said it is a cross between Latin Street dancing and a Kayleigh.
Salsa dancers from Horsham and Crawley performed three fl ashmobs around Horsham. The fi rst in Mar-ket Square, the second on the Fo-
rum and the third outside the Olive Branch.
They were taking part in a world record attempt for the largest num-ber of Flashmobs to take place at the same time on the same day. Clubs throughout the world were invited to perform a fl ashmob at 4pm on the same day. Over 200 clubs have taken part in 60 countries span-ning the globe (for more info on the locations go to http://fl ashmob.dileque.si/).
Last year’s event led to the club being invited to Flashmob at Gat-wick Airport as part of the BBC Children In Need appeal with the club appearing on the TV program the following week.

pleted a hoarding competition with St John’s Primary School in Horsham.
In January, members of the contractor‘s project team behind the new Waitrose and John Lewis stores visited St John‘s Primary School to talk to the children about the project and delivered a presen-tation on site safety. The children were asked to design a poster of how they believed the stores would look at the end of the project.
This week, the 6 runners up and 1 overall winner were picked. The winner, Leah Orme (Year 4) was chosen because the team felt that “so much thought had gone into the design and it refl ected per-fectly what the store would look like on completion - It was so good that Kevin asked Leah if she had looked at the plans!”
Each was given an easter egg provided by the Waitrose store team. The drawings are available to view on the site hoardings, with copies also being put up in the Waitrose store.
Community engagement is a key priority for Simons Group, who work nationally. Recently, the project team in Horsham hosted their second visit from the Con-siderate Constructor’s Scheme and were awarded an overall score of 44/50, receiving 10/10 for their eff orts surrounding health and safety.

Words, words everywhere at Billingshurst SchoolWhy use one word when over a 1,000 will do? The children of Billingshurst Primary School became master wordsmiths this week and demon-strated the power of words by raising over £400 in the ‘Word in a Word’ competition.
The fundraiser, sponsored by the Village Tweet, set pupils the challenge of find-ing as many words as possible using the letters from the school’s name ‘Bill-i n g s h u r s t P r i m a r y School’.
T h e competi-tion results surprised e v e r y o n e with the winner from Key Stage 2, Emily-Jane Har-man, finding 1079 words. The winner from Key Stage 1 was Keira Oxley with 354 words. Prizes were also awarded for the best anagram ‘my school is brilliant’, most money raised, longest and most unusual words. Edie Golding from Year 2 raised an outstanding £125 for 188 words and discovered the 12 letter show-stop-ping word scholarships. The most
unusual words uncovered were im-broglio and glycosuria, both worthy prize-winning entries, causing some to reach for their dictionaries.
The competition is part of the school’s Year of Writing which has already produced some outstanding
work from the children, inspired by a number of exciting
projects; from story competitions and
an author visit to a guest ap-
pearance from a knight in
shining ar-mour.
M r s Claire Wil-son, Eng-lish Leader, comments:
“We are i n c r e d i b l y
proud of the time and ef-
fort the children put into the ‘Word
in a Word’ competi-tion and at the diverse
range and sheer volume of words discovered. The challenge has been a fantastic way of encouraging the children to develop their vocabulary, whilst working alongside parents and grandparents to really stretch their linguistic knowledge and encourage some healthy competition.”
Storrington care home invites local community for Easter celebration
Staff and residents at Care South’s Sussexdown care home in Storrington and the Friends of Sussexdown invited their friends, families and the local community into the home to join them for their Easter coffee morning on Saturday, March 28.
Friends of Sussexdown commit-tee volunteers ran an Easter Egg
hunt for younger visitors in the home’s extensive grounds, who had a lovely time searching high and low in the gardens for choco-late eggs. There was also a deli-cious spread of homemade cakes, with plenty of tea and coffee.
Nick Herbert, MP for Arundel and South Downs, dropped by to join in the fun and the home also
welcomed cadets from Shoreham Air Training Corps.
Sally Williams, Chairman of the Friends of Sussexdown, said: “We were delighted to see so many people at our Easter coffee morn-ing. All funds raised will now go towards the home’s Residents’ Amenity Fund, allowing the home to run a programme of interesting and stimulating activities for Sus-sexdown residents.”
Heather Rogers, Home Manager at Care South’s Sussexdown care home, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the Friends of Sussexdown for organising such a wonderful event. Our Easter coffee morning is always great fun thanks to all their hard work. At Care South it’s important to us that we are holding events that help our residents stay involved in the local Storrington community and this is a lovely example of that.”
The Sussexdown Easter cof-fee morning is organised by the Friends of Sussexdown Commit-tee, who raise money to provide entertainment for residents, in-cluding live music, day trips out, and Christmas and birthday pre-sents for the residents of Sus-sexdown. The committee includes members of the Shoreham branch of the Royal Air Forces Associa-tion.

Horsham’s Italian Easter Festival returned for its ninth year!Easter’s Horsham Piazza Italia 9 has run its course with thousands of people fl ocking to Horsham to celebrate Italian culture in the heart of West Sussex.
Organised by Horsham District Council, Horsham Piazza Italia has now run for nine years straight.
On Good Friday the rain limited the number of Ducati led bikes to just 120 but what they lacked in quantity was made up for in qual-ity. Many extremely rare and stun-ning looking bikes passed through the Carfax on their way to the Bishopric display area before just fewer than 100 Ferraris arrived to an enthusiastic welcome from an audience in un-dampened high spirits. Good Friday was also host to the La Vida fashion show in Piries Place which also featured Beales beauty demonstrations, the models having been beautifi ed by Beauty Secrets of East Street.
On Easter Saturday the weather determinedly maintained a grey shadow over town, it did not seem to aff ect the public.
This may have been in response to the arrival of the classic Minis from ItalianJob.com who trans-ported us back to the sixties and seventies with their groovy parade.
New additions to Piazza Saturday were the Horsham Urban Children and Family Centres Children’s ac-tivity marquee on the Forum and the Children’s Trust Supercar vol-unteers and the ‘race ready team’ from Broadbridge Heath Garage.
Saturday featured the likes of Tony Strange’s characters and his
team of brilliant entertainers, Mr Pavarotti, Dan the Hat and many operatic voices contributing to the atmosphere. A new weekend long commentary from Horsham’s very own, in-comparably eccentric Tim Fifi eld, kept visitors informed, en-gaged and amused.
Easter Monday was kicked off by a fantastic parade, organised by Lamborghini Sevenoaks, featur-ing 11 top of the range Lamborghi-nis, strutting powerfully through Carfax making their way to the Forum.A new Abarth display con-jured up by local dealer Horsham Car Centre, joined by scooters and stylish older Fiat 500s in the Bish-opric. Horsham District Coun-
cil Town Centre and Event Man-ager Garry Mortimer-Cook said, “Whilst Horsham District Council is proud to lead the organisation of this now regionally signifi cant event, this is without doubt a trib-ute to the massive team of fantas-tic vehicle organisers, commercial sponsors and voluntary and busi-ness supporters that the event is at all possible – We thank each and every one of them for enabling us to make this happen for Horsham. We are already planning for the tenth Piazza Italia to be a very spe-cial experience. Piazza Italia X will take place on 25 – 28 March 2016 so put it in your diary now so you don’t miss it!”Photo by Oliver Wilks

Gardening: The garden holds the key our future
Some interesting things have been happening in the garden world over the past few months, which believe it or not may have massive conse-quences for humanity.
You may or may not know, but we have the soil to thank for Penicillin. Many of you think it was blue bread that produces our most famous anti-biotic, but the microbe is more com-mon in the soil.
Now researchers from Northeast-ern University and NovoBiotic Phar-maceuticals have released the results of a major study into soil sourced antibiotics which found a new and hitherto unknown microbe that may just be a major life-saving discovery of immense proportions.
According to tests this microbe is capable of killing both MRSA and tu-berculosis – both of which are widely known to be resistant to almost our entire current batch of remedies. In fact, as more and more bacterium are becoming resistant this could be a key to our future survival. Further studies are needed, including tests on humans – to make sure it doesn’t kill us – but hopefully somewhere in the next ten years the soil will have proved to be a savior to millions yet again.
On a slightly down note, The Lan-cet – the world famous medical jour-nal – published recently a study into common pesticides which we use every day in domestic gardens.
This was duly reported in some of the national papers such as the Daily
Telegraph, but has since disappeared from view. According to the assess-ment made by the International Agency for Research on Cancer it is now thought that the weed-killer Glyphosate is probably a carcinogen linked to non-Hodgkin lymphoma. If you are not aware of what glyphosate is, then read on. The most basic ex-planation is that it is the most widely used weed-killer in the domestic and agricultural markets, advertised under many brand names –most fa-mously as ‘Roundup’. It is a spray-on weed-killer which is advertised as killing the whole plant not just the leaves. It can be bought from most retailers that deal with plants or gar-dening. However, do not panic! There are procedures you can take to pre-vent contamination. Wear protec-tive clothing – you can buy a dispos-able suit from most hardware shops. Disposable gloves are a must, as is a mask with a suitable fi lter to pre-vent any drift entering your mouth. (If you are required to spray profes-sionally, this should have been laid out in your PA1 and PA6 training, but is worth remembering anyway). Do not allow children and pets onto the treated area. Last but not least, do not dispose of the unspent chemical into the water supply or drains as it is highly toxic to aquatic life. If this chemical is proved to be a cause for concern, then the consequences are quite astounding. The councils hap-pily spray glyphosate on our streets to suppress weeds regularly throughout summer, but of most concern is the farmer who needs to suppress weeds in order to feed us on ever tightening budgets. Without this weed-killer our food prices will soar. Let’s hope this is resolved quickly.

Following Christ’s Hospital pupil Onyinye Udokporo’s invitation to Dean’s Court during the Christmas holiday to take tea with the Bishop of London, Onyinye reciprocated on Thursday, March 26.
The Bishop, Dr Richard Chartres, KCVO, FSA was invited to spend an informal day at Christ’s Hospital, where he met the Head Master, John Franklin and was involved in a Sixth Form discussion group.
Onyinye, 16, gave an account of the Bishop of London’s visit:
“I began my day by taking the Bishop on a tour of the School. I started by showing him the Chapel, looking particularly at the magnifi -cent Brangwyn murals. We then went to the Theatre where it was fi lled with our junior pupils in action as they performed in their drama lesson. Be-fore heading to lunch, we looked at
the paintings in the library and were able to spot Bishop Ridley – the Bish-op of London in 1552 who preached the need for Christ’s Hospital. It was nice that we were able to make such an important and historic connec-tion.
We then had lunch and watched ‘Band Parade’, a lunchtime tradition when the pupils march into lunch to the accompaniment of the School Band. After lunch, the Bishop was kind enough to hold a Sixth Form dis-cussion group when he spoke about his work in China and his theological journey over the last 40 years.
My favourite part of the day was the tour. I was honoured to be given the privilege of showing the Bishop the School. I would like to thank everyone who made this very special day a suc-cess; it is something I will certainly never forget.”
Bishop of London visits Christ’s Hospital School Beware of fl y tippersTwo men have recently been seen with a fl atbed truck in the Lanc-ing and Henfi eld areas, looking for properties that have recently been refurbished where waste such as household items and rubble is left in the garden.
They then off er the homeown-er the chance to pay to have the waste removed and subsequently fl ytip the items. It is believed that they may live in the Storrington area.
PC John Burt from the Horsh-am Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Please be aware that you, the homeowner, could be liable for the clean up if the waste is traced back to you. Please do not accept any of-fers of removal on the doorstep.

Refresh your gardening skills this Spring and start a new career!Do you enjoy gardening but feel you don’t know enough about it? Are you thinking about a change of career and would like to work outdoors with fl owers, shrubs, trees, vegetables or fruit? How about a year’s part-time training in a beautiful garden?
The “Work and Retrain As a Gar-dener Scheme” (or WRAGS) pro-vides men and women of all ages with the opportunity to work with supervision for two days a week for a year in a carefully sourced garden. Fees are currently £125 for garden owners and £400 for trainees (pay-able over 3 months) and the garden owner pays a non-taxable training allowance of £5 per hour direct to the trainee.
Garden owners benefi t from the help they receive from enthusiastic and committed trainees who range from novices to students on RHS or other horticultural courses. They in turn gain practical experience and confi dence to enhance their own gardening and/or go on to various careers in horticulture.
A placement opportunity at the
extraordinary Knepp Castle near West Grinstead has just come available and is a fabulous location for two lucky trainees with its glo-rious walled garden.
Do enquire, however, as place-ments come up suddenly for vari-ous reasons, new gardens join and there are more opportunities available if trainees are prepared to travel further afi eld.
The scheme is just one pro-ject off ered by the UK charity, the WFGA, (the Women's Farm and Garden Association) which was established in 1899 and set up the fi rst Women’s Land Army in 1912. WFGA members can also benefi t from useful workshops and work-days, informative newsletters, garden tours, funding for further training, discounts on gardening accessories and seeds, a recruit-ment network and local members’ gatherings.
For more information about WFGA membership/WRAGS see www.wfga.org.uk, call the WFGA on 01285 658 339 or email local co-ordinator [email protected].

The Sussex Manufacturing Forum will be meeting on April 16, at the South Lodge Hotel in Horsham and promises to have something for everyone involved in the manufac-turing and engineering industries throughout Sussex.
The free Forum is sponsored by the Manufacturing Group at Worthing-based Carpenter Box accountants and tax advisers and HSBC Bank.
At the April meeting, Southwater-based Sony group company Sony DADC will give an insight into how they have managed to continuously develop their business involving the manufacture, packaging and distri-bution of Blu Rays, DVDs and CDs through increased automation and how they plan to meet the challenges of diversifi cation as the era of down-loads and streaming diminishes the market for tangible media.
Chartered Tax Adviser Stuart
Noakes, Head of the Tax Group at Carpenter Box will also update the Forum on the latest news on Re-search & Development Tax Credits and the Patent Box regime where evi-dence suggests that businesses could be missing out on signifi cant amounts of tax relief through a misunderstand-ing of what R&D actually is.
Finally, The Sussex Innovation Centre will provide some helpful advice to manufacturers who are keen to improve their business-es by taking the next step towards achieving growth.
Chris Coopey, one of the facilita-
tors of the Forum and head of the Manufacturing Group at Carpenter Box, said: “This Forum often results
in some lively debate around a wide range of issues
impacting on manu-facturers and from
previous events I know that many attendees pick up valuable hints and tips for their own business by simply talking
and listening to other manufactur-
ers.”The Forum will
commence at 8am on 16 April and light refresh-
ments will be provided. For information visit www.sussex-

HORSHAM!
If you are planning to whip your wardrobe into shape this season and have a really good clear out whilst supporting a local charity then why note support the 2015 Cancer Research UK Donation Sta-tion at Swan Walk.
After huge success in previous years, Swan Walk Shopping Centre in Horsham launch their 2015 Do-nation Station next Thursday, April 16.
“Swan Walk’s loyal customers have raised over £100,000 for Can-cer Research UK over recent years,” said Gill Buchanan, Centre Man-ager. “After a huge £17,000 result in 2014 we are hoping to add at least this much again this year.
“Donating could not be easier and for many of our regular customers this has become an annual activity. Customers can collect a bag from the pick up point in the centre, fill it up at home and pop it back to the drop off point when they are next shopping in Horsham. What better reason could there be to have a good clear out at home to make way for your new summer purchases. Please take the time to check out your wardrobes, cupboards and shelves and help us to make 2015 another successful year. This really is the ultimate recycling challenge for us all.”
Cancer Research UK will be de-lighted to receive good quality
clothes, shoes, accessories, books, homewares, DVD’s and CD’s. All donations will be used in the first instance to stock the two Cancer Re-search UK stores in Horsham’s East Street and West Street so this really is a town centre community event.
Each bag can be worth up to £30.00 to the charity and donators can also sign up for Gift Aid. Victo-ria Godfrey, Manager at the Cancer Research UK’s East Street store, who has worked with the centre every year to deliver this event, said: “We’ve had tremendous sup-port from Swan Walk and the people of Horsham in the past and we are looking forward to the 2015 chal-lenge.”

Recycle your Easter egg boxes at Sainsbury’sFollowing the success of last year’s trial, all customers can now recycle their old Easter egg packaging and boxes at Sains-bury’s Horsham from April 3 to April 14.
The specially designed Easter re-cycling facility allows customers to recycle the elements of Easter egg packaging – including plastic, card and paper. The scheme makes it even easier to recycle the packag-ing from eggs, taking in materials like rigid plastic which not all local kerbside collections accept. The recycling facilities will be available at 400 stores across supermarkets in the UK.
The Christmas card recycling scheme back in January had man-aged to collect 88 tonnes of cards which amounted to a donation of £12,276 to the Forest Stewardship Council, helping to protect the world’s forests.
Sainsbury’s Head of Sustainabil-ity, Engineering, Energy & Envi-ronment Paul Crewe said: “We’re proud to offer the recycling facility to our customers and colleagues. Recycling is an important part of Sainsbury’s environmental com-mitment and the Christmas card and Easter egg recycling schemes have been really popular in the past, it’s a great way of reminding people to recycle.”

Seeing Spring at St Mary’s Church
St Mary’s Church Choir and the Slinfold Concert Band are combin-ing forces to present a selection of musical favourites on Saturday, April 18, at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, The Causeway, Horsham.
This is the first time St Mary's Choir has joined up with the popu-lar Slinfold Concert Band. They will play a selection of musical favour-
ites, showcase individual talents from the Choir and the band and will also celebrate 150 years of their ‘Father Willis’ Organ. They hope to raise much needed funds to main-tain the historic building.
Jeremy Weaver, the choir’s musi-cal director said: “We are present-ing a wide of choice of music in-cluding both popular and classic.
“The programme includes fa-vourites by Rutter and Mozart, well- known musicals such as Sound of Music, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera and other favourites such as Handel's Hallelujah Chorus and Paul Mealor's Wherever you are (Military Wives).”
It is hoped that there will be mu-sic to please everyone with refresh-
ments served in theinterval. Tickets are £10, £1 for
children under 16, available from the Church office on 01403 253762 or at the door. All proceeds will go towards the Church Conservation Fund, as the church is facing major works on the roof and fabric of the building and for extensive repairs to the Church Organ.

An Evening With
Alice in Wonderland was the theme for 18-year-old Ellie Bur-nell-Price’s Fashion Show on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
The Trina Mawer Hall had been miraculously transformed into a catwalk worthy of Paris, Milan or London. The catwalk ran the length of the hall, lit by a gantry of spot-lights and speakers provided by Concert Tech. Models – fabulous in fl ats, poised in platforms or bop-ping in bare feet - appeared as if by magic, accompanied by appro-priately themed music created into one continuous track by top London DJ, Jez Pereira.
A white-rabbit was seen on the catwalk, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum appeared, as did some amaz-ingly mad hats! Sold-out weeks ago, this show did not disappoint - it blew away fashion-seasoned professionals and new-fashionis-tas alike.
The models were drawn from the staff and students of Farlington; from one of the youngest students, three year old Isla Turner, to some of the oldest students in the Upper Sixth. (Teachers’ ages were pro-tected under the State Secrets Act.) Isla’s poise, confi dence and enjoy-ment was matched by her older peers but I must admit she did steal the show for me! I know Farlington educates for confi dence and this clearly begins from the very start in our Nursery class.
Each segment of the show was sponsored by particular designers and local companies: One Forty in Cranleigh, Joanna Zara Millinery, Molly Coddle Childrenswear, Jenny Collicott London, Lizzie Lock Mil-linery, It’s Not Me It’s You London,
Zoozoo2, Type on Top and couture designer, Hiroshi Goto. All of these designers can be found online or at Horsham market. The hats, dress-es, bags and entire outfi ts were all hankered after by girls and adults alike. I am sure I was not alone in wishing there was an adult version of many of the Molly Coddle dresses for the very young girls, particularly the footprints in the sand design, which made me think of holidays past and future.
Fashion designs created by the Farlington girls, under the guidance of Mrs Cooper and Mrs Brown, in-cluded some stunningly origi-nal pieces, again modelled with elegance by students from the Senior School.
The parade of perfectly cute tie-dye t-shirts supplied by Farlington’s current Young Enterprise company, Piper Jayne, was modelled by girls from the Prep School who showed superb grace and self-assurance.
The second half began with some more impressive and delight-ful dancing by yet more talented girls. The show then went from the sublime to the...teachers. School staff modelled their own design of T-shirt or tie: swaggers got bigger, pouts got poutier and cheers got louder as more and more staff surprises appeared.
The fi nal couture section of the show was quite simply stunning. The dresses sourced from London College of Fashion student Goto loaned many gorgeous dresses from his collection. The grace, so-phistication and splendour of the sensational dresses were matched word for word by the young models; it was a truly breath-taking conclu-sion to the event.
Louise Higson, Headmistress, said: “This was a truly incredible
event for an adult in the fashion or PR industry to have pulled off , let alone an 18-year-old student, but then Ellie is hardly your average student and Farlington is hardly your average school. This event was part of Ellie’s Extended Project Qualifi cation, which is an addition to A Levels that top universities are increasingly looking for from pro-spective students. Many students will choose to write an academic es-say on a topic that interests them, but highly-graded EPQs by past Farlington students have included organising a successful Horse Show
and designing a chapel for the 21st Century. Who
knows what next year’s t a l e n t e d girls will
produce?”

How sweet it is to hear classic MotownIn 1959, Berry Gordy Jnr had a dream, and with a loan of $800 he started Motown records in De-troit. In the 60s the production and songwriting talents of Hol-land, Dozier and Holland domi-nated the Detriot sound, the sound of young America, and they both penned and produced n u m e r o u s hits for The Four Tops, and many more art-ists of the day.
T a m l a M o t o w n was also the home of The Temptations, who, along with The Four Tops, have two of the longest and distinguished career’s to date in popular music, going back to 1954 when the ‘Tops’ performed at a high school graduation party, and until fairly recently still consisted of the original four members. The hits continued throughout the 60s, into the 70s, the 80s, and even the
90s as Motown became a genre of music all of its own, and had people dancing ‘All Night Long’ all over the world.
On Tuesday, May 19, that’s exactly what’s in store at The Hawth – Mo-
town’s Greatest Hits - How Sweet It Is – will have
you dancing to the classic’s of Mo-
town Legends The Four Tops, The Temp-t a t i o n s , S m o k e y Robinson, M a r v i n Gaye, Li-onel Richie, The Isley
B r o t h e r s , The Jackson’s,
Stevie Wonder, Edwin Starr and
many more. Motown’s Great-
est Hits - How Sweet It Is both celebrates and recreates all the wonderful vibes and music that originated in Detroit in the late 1950s, and takes you on a musical journey through the golden Tamla Motown days of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
This Show is an evening crammed full of all your Motown favourite’s, - Reach Out I’ll Be There, Walk Away Renee, I Cant Help Myself, Going Loco in Acapulco, My Girl, Ain't Too Proud To Beg, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, and Get Ready, to name but a few from the ‘Tops and Temps’, plus, I heard It Through The Grape-vine, Sir Duke, The Tracks Of My Tears, Dancing On The Ceiling, This Old Heart Of Mine and I Want You Back etc.

How to walk your way to a longer lifeA new study has found that walk-ing contributes towards longer life expectancy; one of many rea-sons to get active with the Out & About Club.
The unique fitness programme created by Pied A Terre Adven-tures is set in and around the South Downs countryside and is perfect for people who want to exercise and socialise whilst enjoying the great outdoors.
Recent studies have proven that a daily walk boosts mental and physical wellbeing and prolongs life.
Research also suggests that ur-banisation is considered a potential threat to mental health and wellbe-ing, which is why new Out & About club member Deborah Wiggin (55) regularly makes the journey from South London to the West Sussex countryside for her exercise.
Deborah who joined the club in mid-January said: “The Out & About Club is such a refreshing alternative to the slog of going to the gym. The South Downs scen-ery is absolutely breath-taking and gives you an instant buzz and the instructors really know their stuff. Sessions are tailored to suit all abilities and you come away feeling like you have had a good workout. As much as I love my London life, I crave the countryside and the Out & About Club really satisfies that
need. It is fantastic value, but you can also pay as you go and work it around your lifestyle.”
New members can take advan-tage of the Out & About Club Spring offer and get three months free when they join for a year.
Deborah added: “I find myself really looking forward to the week-end and meeting the Out & About Club. It provides the perfect tonic to a busy week in the city. It is such fantastic value for the expertise and local knowledge that the in-structors have to share. I think what I love most is the historical, geological and geographic insight to the West Sussex countryside that you learn from the guides along the way.”
The programme comprises a va-riety of guided walks, photography workshops and fitness sessions set in a variety of locations throughout
Sussex and Surrey.Kirstie Betts, Company Direc-
tor at Pied A Terre Adventures said: “Our fantastic club has got off to a great start, we have a bril-liant group dynamic and our cur-rent members are all so friendly and enthusiastic. The photography workshops have received excellent feedback and the guided walks and fitness classes are the perfect way to explore and feel fitter whilst be-ing surrounded by inspiring land-scapes. We feel the club offers a wonderful personal alternative to the gym, it’s very sociable and our members comment on how ener-gised and happier they feel after one of our activities. We go with the flow of the session and often stop for a refreshment at a country pub or tea room.”
A free taster session is being held for interested new members to join a three hour guided walk at Ciss-bury Ring from 9am on Saturday, April 26.
Club membership costs £25 per month for access to all sessions, alternatively individual sessions can be purchased starting at £7 per activity. Please register inter-est prior to attending by emailing: [email protected] and for more information check out the website: www.patadventures.com or facebook page: The Out and About Club.

gs10 point checklist for new landlords on the rules and regulations of letting
Many people are turning to the property market for a second income by becom-ing ‘part time’ landlords. However, a signifi cant number do not know or comply with the myriad legal obliga-tions involved in lettings.
According to a recent study by insur-ance group LV=, seven per cent of UK adults rent out a property to supplement their main income and nearly half (49 per cent) manage their rental property themselves without adequate protection to ensure they comply with the many le-gal requirements.
According to LV= almost 500,000 landlords have not had their property checked by a gas safety engineer in the last 12 months, risking prosecutions and fi nes of up to £20,000.
Carole Charge, Leaders’ Technical & Compliance Director says: “The income from letting a property is certainly ap-pealing and buy-to-let is a great invest-ment if it is done properly. However, there are 100+ rules and regulations that a property has to pass to be let legally and landlords must ensure they adhere to all of them to avoid large fi nes and even custodial sentences in extreme cases.
“Our 10 point checklist gives those new to letting an overview of what is required to fulfi l your obligations to your tenants and protect your interests as a landlord.”1. Gas, fi re, furnishing and electrical safety requirements
It is the landlord’s responsibility to
ensure all gas appliances, electrical equipment, furniture and soft furnish-ings are maintained in a safe condition and that they all comply with the ap-propriate regulations; the tenant must also be provided with the correct current documentation.2. Energy Performance Certifi cates (EPC)
All properties being marketed as avail-able to let are required to have an Energy Performance Assessment carried out and a certifi cate produced.3. Tenant vetting
Every tenant should go through a thor-ough vetting process; this should include a detailed assessment of the tenant’s ability to aff ord the rent, credit and ID checks, proof of residency and referenc-es from employers and former landlords. Stringent checks should also be carried out on guarantors if required.4. Inventory and schedule of condition
A professional inventory and schedule of condition at the start of the tenancy is essential to ensure that you have an ac-curate record should you need to make a claim against the deposit for damage.5. Tenancy agreement
Tenancy agreements protect your in-terests as a landlord and must comply with residential letting legislation. They must be easy to understand, be written in plain English and contain no unfair terms or conditions.6. Correct buildings and contents in-surance
Most ordinary home insurance prod-ucts do not cover rented properties so it is important to have the appropriate building and contents insurance for let-ting a property. Without the correct in-surance you may not be able to claim and
could face serious fi nancial losses.7. Dealing with late rent or rent arrears
You will need a robust system in place to chase rental payments to ensure you avoid late payments and act accordingly if they do occur. You must serve the cor-rect legal notice at the correct time if your tenant falls into arrears with their rent.8. Tenancy deposits
Deposits must be protected in accord-ance with the rules and regulations of the Tenancy Deposit Protection Scheme. You need to provide your tenant with the details within 30 days of the start of the tenancy.9. Regular property visits
Regular and suitably documented vis-its to the property are vital, as well as
ensuring someone is on call to deal with any maintenance issues, emergencies and the many calls that tenants make about the property.10. Taxation on lettings income
Any profi t made from letting a prop-erty is subject to UK income tax, whether the landlord lives in the UK or not, and must be reported in a Self-Assessment Tax Return.
Becoming a landlord can seem over-whelming, but a professional agent can help with all the above. Instructing an experienced agent can be a wise move to ensure all legal obligations are met and is the best way to ensure your interests are protected.

This time Pat James and Abie Sweatman, directors of fam-ily run lettings agents, Lines and James, are ventur-ing further afi eld for possibly their big-gest challenge yet - trekking along The Great Wall of China.
Chestnut Tree House is the only Children's H o s p i c e in Sussex caring for child with life limiting illness and p r o v i d i n g much needed support to their parents. Currently Chestnut cares for over 300 children which costs in excess of £6000 a day, there are many more children that the hospice would love to be able to reach but with less than 8% of fund-ing from the government, this marvel-lous charity relies heavily on donations and support from local people and busi-

provided Pat and Abie a real insight just how vital the fundraising is to keep this wonderful home going. The facilities and focus on ensuring child have as much

this special house creates precious

Horsham, Roff ey & Billingshurst eager for new season
Horsham Ladies 1st XI 1 - 2 Bristol Firebrands
For the fi rst time our district has three teams in the Sussex Premier League – Horsham, Roff ey and Billingshurst, saying much about the strength of our local cricket - there are only seven other teams in the top fl ight in the whole of Sussex.
The new season is full of interest with mouth watering local derbies in prospect. Can Horsham get back on the silverware trail? Will Roff ey maintain the form that saw them storm home as undisputed league champions in 2014? And, how will Billingshurst fare in their fi rst sea-son in the upper echelon after back to back promotions?
NatWest CricketForce working parties have been in action prepar-ing our three top grounds and eve-ryone is raring to go.
Horsham have signed Sussex 2nd XI left arm medium pacer George Garton and have other irons in the fi re, including a possible overseas player.
Captain Sam Attfi eld, looking forward to his second season in charge says: “Last year we showed glimpses of what we can do – we
were the only team to do the double over the champions! But we were a bit up and down, losing games that we should have won. If we can play together consistently as a team then we could do well.”
Head Groundsman Jim Askew confi rms the wickets are looking good and there will be a club prac-tice day on Saturday April 11 ahead of friendlies against Worthing and Eastbourne on the April 18 and 25. The serious action starts on Sun-day 26 with a trip to Surrey against Normandy in the ECB National Club Championships before a home T20 cup tie against St James’s (May 2) and the fi rst league game with a trip to Eastbourne (May 9).
Roff ey skipper Josh Fleming, still in the running to make late sign-ings, told the District Post: “Eyes will be on us to see if we can do it again! We’re testing ourselves with some strong friendlies – on April 11 we go to Hartley, they landed a hat trick of Kent League titles from 2011. On April 19 we entertain Ifi eld and on April 26 we go to Havant, runners up in the Southern Premier League - we’re expecting a proper game after we knocked them out of the National KO Cup last year. Our T20 campaign starts on May 2 at Brighton & Hove ahead of our fi rst league game, at home, to regular champions Preston Nomads who we beat at Fulking to win the league last summer. Bring it on!”
Drew Smallwood has been bea-
vering away on the ground, saying: “I’ve been able to get some serious rolling done and am pleased with the way things have shaped up.”
There is an air of great antici-pation at Billingshurst where Jim Burroughs tells us: “When I be-came Chairman 23 years ago I had two ambitions – to move to a new ground and, eventually, to get into the Premier League. We’ve done both. I never really expected we would but everyone has worked extremely hard to make it happen. All players contributed last season, game by game. We’ve made a big jump and we’re looking to consoli-date our position. We’re under no illusions, but rest assured we’ll be giving it our very best shot.”
Captain Ben Williams is returning from cricket in Australia, mean-while club stalwart Chris Sham-brook says: “We’ve got a proper baptism of fi re with a visit to Cam-berley in the National Champion-ships on April 26 and have Nomads in the T20 Cup on May 2, then our league programme opens at aspir-ing East Grinstead the following Saturday. We’re preparing with friendlies at Havant on April 19, Three Bridges at Jubilee Fields on the 25, before Ifi eld’s visit on Sun-day May 3. We’re all very excited to get cracking.”
Read The District Post each week throughout the season for weekly reports on our three major teams – Horsham, Roff ey and Billingshurst.

Joggers in the medals at Christ’s Hospital
AthleticsJulia Johnson - Horsham Joggers
The Sussex Road Relays took place at Christ’s Hospital School last weekend and Horsham Jog-gers were once again in the list of medal winners.
With a strong wind testing the strength of the runners over the 2.1 mile course, all of the HJ teams put
in stunning performances against some of the best runners in the county.
The HJ women’s over 40 team, consisting of Janine Littler, Ali Gormley and Val Purnell, ran their combined 6.3 miles in 42 mins. 34 secs, putting them comfortably in the medals table, each receiving a coveted Sussex AA bronze medal.
The senior ladies team, Carol-
Anne Davies-Jones, Anna Titch-marsh and Lucinda Potten, fi n-ished in a very creditable 11th place (out of 22) with an overall time of 41:11.
The men’s over 50 A team of Steve Wigmore, Dean Angell and Pete O'Connell took a convincing fi rst place and a gold medal each in 35:08 - one minute seventeen sec-onds ahead of second place Craw-ley AC. Not only did team captain Pete O'Connell run the equal third fastest over 50 lap of the day in an impressive 11.28, but this was his 24th Sussex AA Gold medal.
The men’s over 50 B team put in a solid performance fi nishing 7th (out of 16) with Tony John-son, Chris Wigby, and Paul Adams clocking 38:45.
In the Senior Men’s race of 6 legs the HJ A-team got off to a fantas-tic start with Neil Boniface run-ning a blistering fi rst leg in 9:58, followed by Dean Heneghan, Mat-thew Anstee-Brown, Raff Vitale, Phil Liberman and Tiernan Cotter, all earning 8th place (out of 13) in a total time of 69:29.
Tony Frankland was the only runner in the HJ Senior Men’s B team fi nishing his leg in 13.40.

YM beat league leaders LittlehamptonSaturday April 4 - Sussex County League Div. 1 Horsham YMCA 2 - 1 Littlehampton Town
FootballTom Norris - Football Reporter
An Anthony Hibbert brace helped Horsham YMCA defeat Division 1 leaders Littlehampton Town 2-1 in an enthralling encounter at Gor-ings Mead on Saturday.
The YM midfielder thumped home an unstoppable twenty-five yard opener midway through the first half, before netting an equal-ly exquisite second eight min-utes from time, just moments af-ter Golds’ captain Joe Shelley had drawn the sides’ level.
The three points marked YM’s fourth win on the bounce and sixth game unbeaten, whilst also aveng-ing narrow league and cup defeats to Town earlier in the campaign, and denting their opponents’ title chasing aspirations.
A delighted YM manager Peter Buckland said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. It was a great perfor-mance and one of our best of the
season. Today’s result puts every-thing into perspective. I’ve just said to the players that I wish this was ten games into the season because we’d win the league by a country mile. The more I think about it, some of the injuries and the con-stant changing of shape, formation and personnel have had a bigger impact than I ever thought it had. During March and for this game as well, we’ve had continuity in the squad and it just shows that if you can keep the players together and play more or less the same eleven, tinkering things a bit with changes as each game unfolds, we’re as good as anybody in the league. I’ve said that all along and their manager again has just said it to us. But we are where we are and it’s too late now even for a miracle. But I’ve also just said to the players that if we can keep this group together for next season, with two or three tweak-ings, we won’t make the same mis-takes again.”
YM Team: Fox, Carden, Crane, Doherty, Evans, Hibbert, Gedling, D. Sullivan (J. Brown 89), D. Brown, Schaaf (Hyett 84), N. Sullivan. Un-used Subs: William.

Broadbridge Heath suffer wild second half stormSaturday April 4 - Sussex County League Div. 1 Chichester City 2 - 1 Broadbridge Heath
FootballDave Smith - Sports Editor
Broadbridge Heath have now gone five games without a win follow-ing this defeat at Chichester City and their hopes of a top ten finish have taken a knock.
Heath were looking comfortable with a one nil lead, but the second half introduction of City youngster Jimmy Wild, turned the contest on its head.
Steve Painter had to make a num-ber of changes to the starting line-up which has been a regular oc-currence this season. One change being goalkeeper Eliott Flack which meant brothers Martin and Eliott in the starting line up for the first time.
Clear cut chances were few and far between in a scrappy first period when neither side were able to con-trol the game. Heath’s Ollie Moore was restricted to three long range efforts and Frangou should have put City into the lead but the City striker volleyed just wide and both teams went in at the break without scoring.
Fifteen minutes after the re-start Heath right back Brendan Sebuliba fired a powerful shot which City keeper Ender palmed away for a
corner. Mark Bevan stepped up to take the corner and delivered the perfect near post cross for Andrade to head powerfully home.
Chichester’s answer to Heath’s second half dominance was to in-troduce substitute Wild from the bench and the tall seventeen year old changed the game. In the 67th
minute Wild drove at the Heath de-fence and found Frangou in space who found the back of the net from just inside the box. Five minutes later Chichester took the lead from a free-kick that saw Wild rise above the Heath defence to convert the cross with a bullet header that gave keeper Flack no chance.
It was Heath who had the final chance of the match and should have rescued a late draw. With five minutes remaining, a quickly taken corner saw a Sultan cross headed over the bar by Balfour.
Heath Team: E. Flack, Sebuliba, M. Flack, Balfour, Bevan (Clark 72), Mobsby, Moore, Godfrey, Sultan, Andrade, Robinson (Legrange 5).
Sussex County Youth League Cup Quarter Final Roffey Youth FC 3 - 2 Eastbourne United
FootballDave Smith - Sports Editor
Roffey progressed to the semi-final of the county youth league cup with a 3 - 2 victory over East-bourne.
The game started brightly with
both teams enjoying good posses-sion, but it was Roffey who took the lead with a fine strike from Callum Nash from just inside the box. Eastbourne then dropped to ten men when their right back was given his marching orders for a very late tackle. Roffey capitalised quickly when Ed Goacher put Liam Ruz through to rifle the ball into the roof of the net.
Eastbourne regrouped at half time and came back strongly scor-
ing two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half. This then set up a tense second period of the match, with the ten men of Eastbourne matching the eleven of Roffey.
As the game wore on the tireless Eastbourne side began to run out of steam, and Callum Nash set up Liam Ruz to run in on goal to make it 3 - 2.
Roffey now meet Hassocks in the semi-final.

Horsham U14 boys team turn a cornerJunior HockeyDave Smith - Sports Editor
The recent 3 - 1 win against East Grinstead, with goals from Owen Casey, Myles Edwards and Angus Hall, marked a real milestone for the U14 Boys of Horsham Hockey Club.
They had never beaten East Grin-stead and at the end of 2014 were lan-guishing in last place in the Mercian League after heavy defeats.
But since January, the boys have managed away wins at Havant and Purley to climb the league table.
Team manager, Alistair Cardwell, said "Our boys seemed to expect to lose earlier in the season, but they have developed as players and as a team. They now expect to compete and score goals. It is great to see."
The U14 team is for boys in school years 8 and 9 and, this season, Hor-sham has competed in the England Hockey Cup as well as the Mercian League.

As I stated a few weeks ago in the District Post there was two match-es in the run in that Horsham had little chance of getting anything from, Whytleafe at home and Faversham Town away, the others were winnable, and to have any hope of survival the Hornets had to win them.
Predictably they lost to Whytleafe but this match against Walton & Hersham, who lie just above the relegation zone, was a must win.
It was bad enough that Horsham lost it, and lost it by three clear goals at that, but the fact they put in a performance that lacked any spirit, desire or urgency was and is totally unacceptable. The team has looked relegation candidates since the first few games of the season and the changes in management and playing staff that have occurred over the woeful season have failed to arrest the club’s freefall.
Fifty two different players have pulled on a Hornets shirt in a league match this season in either a start-
ing or a substitute role. Yes, chang-es were needed to the lacklustre playing staff when Gary Charman went but the current management duo seem uncertain as to what is the best starting eleven. Given the amount of comings and goings the team has become a bunch of mer-cenaries who apart from one or two appear to take little pride in, or of-fer any effort towards, the club.
As for the match; Horsham have not lost at Walton's Stompond Lane ground since 2006 and Walton & Hersham are hardly a great side but Horsham’s dire performance, when effort and desire was called for, broke the undefeated run at the stadium and made the home side look a league above their standard.
It took just ten minutes for the hosts to go ahead and in doing so set the tone for what was to be an error strewn Hornets afternoon. Shawn Lyle was fouled by Joe Ober-steller and from the resulting free kick Tarome Hemmings hit the ball straight through the three man wall and past the motionless Gareth Williams in goal.
It should have been two a minute later when Richie Byrne, who had a nightmare of a match, messed up completely but the Horsham de-fender was reprieved when Lyle hit
his shot over the bar. The rest of the half painted a picture of what the match was all about, two poor sides struggling to play football, and the referee’s whistle brought some re-lief to the small crowd and hopeful-ly would allow Horsham to regroup and come out fighting.
But instead of coming out a dif-ferent side it was much of the same from Horsham with an early second half error from Jack Hope nearly gifting the home side a second.
It did not take long for Walton to double their lead however and again it was an error, again from Byrne, that allowed Daly to score past Wil-liams to put Walton & Hersham two up and effectively seal the win.
Horsham were put out of their misery six minutes from time when Lyle was gifted a goal by the hapless Hornets defence. It could have been four before the final whistle as the now despondent group of Horsham players saw Chendlik’s effort ruled out for offside.
Fellow relegation threatened teams Ramsgate, East Grinstead and Hastings had done what teams under threat of relegation do; put up a fight which gained three points each and in doing so left Horsham with a near impossible task of pre-venting relegation.

Heath end winless run to head back into top tenTuesday April 7 - Sussex County League Div 1 Broadbridge Heath 3 - 0 Crawley Down
FootballDave Smith - Sports Editor
In a side that boasted seven for-mer youth team players Heath went into this game without three first choice midfielders so Harry Bal-four stepped up from the back and Brendan Sebuliba took up his fourth different position since rejoining the Bears, alongside top scorer Ol-lie Moore.
It took only three minutes for Heath to get in front when Moore was fouled on the edge of the area and Mark Bevan stepped up to smash the ball over the wall into the top corner.
Heath continued to press the visi-tors and minutes later Bevan let fly again but Greaves in the visitors goal tipped it over. Andrade and Sebuliba both went close to adding to the score but the hard working Crawley Down team were having the greater pos-session without ever worrying Heath keeper Elliot Flack unduly.
The second half started with the visitors continuing to chase the equaliser and Tom Gannon fired just
wide for Down while Holmes glanced a corner just wide for Heath.
On the hour and with the next goal looking all important Holmes got behind the Down defence and went to ground under pressure. Referee Harding gave the penalty, much to the disgust of the Down defenders, and Moore made no mistake from the spot.
Two minutes into stoppage time Andrade was put in by Martyn Flack, only to be wrestled to the ground. The Heath striker picked himself up and blasted home the spot kick to bring the proceedings to an end.
The victory brings to an end Heath’s run of five games without a win and they now sit eighth in Divi-sion One and will be targeting still being there at the end of the season.
Heath Team: Flack E, Sultan, Bevan (Grieg) Attwater, Flack M, Balfour, Moore, Sebuliba, Andrade, Holmes, Robinson (Legrange).

Unbeaten run ends away at Wanderers
Monday April 6 - Sussex County League Div 1 Dorking 2 - 1 Horsham YMCA
FootballTom Norris - Football Reporter
Horsham YMCA missed the chance to move up to fifth in Division 1 on Monday, as their six game un-beaten run came to a disappointing end with a 2-1 defeat away at new league leaders Dorking Wanderers.
Hosts’ forward Kev Terry net-ted his eighth goal in four games to give Dorking the lead on twenty-one minutes, but YM responded almost immediately thanks to a trademark twenty-five yard Luke Gedling won-der strike.
The sides were only level for nine minutes however, as Luke Pidgeon’s free header restored the home side’s advantage, and that’s how things stayed following a lifeless second forty-five in front of a bumper crowd at West Humble.
With Loxwood and Newhaven both
falling to unexpected defeats, Peter Buckland’s side could have leap-frogged both of their rivals into fifth spot on goal difference with a win, but a lacklustre display meant that wasn’t to be the case.
Meanwhile, Dorking now sit four points clear at the top of the table after second placed Littlehampton Town drew away at East Preston, and although the Golds do still have a game in hand over Marc White’s side, Wanderers will be crowned champions if they win their remain-ing three games.
YM manager Peter Buckland com-mented: “We just didn’t turn up to-day. We saved one of our worst per-formances of the season for away to top of the league.
“I tried shaking them out of their slumber before the game, with it be-ing an early morning kick off, but to win any game of football at any level, you’ve got to have eleven players on their game. For the last ten minutes we were the better side. We start-ed getting forward a bit more and
showing the energy that we nor-mally do and could cheekily have sneaked a draw.
That would have been harsh on Dorking Wanderers though I’ve got to say, because the best team on the day won, and we’ve just got to pick ourselves up now for Saturday.”
YM Team: Lockwood, Carden, O’Carroll (Gathern 85), Doherty, Evans, Gedling, Dugdale, D. Sulli-van (Hyett 81), Hibbert, D. Brown, N. Sullivan. Unused Subs: Crane.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
I’ve just said to the players that I wish this was ten games into the
season because we’d win the league by a
country mile.

Di Paola in at Horsham as Storey and Cant depart
The Horsham FC board have moved quickly in appointing a re-placement for the management duo of Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant who were relieved of their duties on Bank Holiday Monday after the match against Corinthi-an-Casuals in which the Hornets grabbed a rare league victory.
Thirty-four-year-old Dom Di Paola was announced as manager on Tuesday evening following a brief meeting with club offi cials. Di Paola resigned as manager of Hastings United in January after spending just fourteen matches at the helm of Horsham’s fellow Ry-man League strugglers in a period that saw only four wins from one of the pre-seasons favourites for promotion.
Prior to joining Hastings Di Paola managed East Preston to the Sus-sex County League championship in 2013/14. During the same sea-son the club won the John O'Hara League Cup, fi nished runners-up in the RUR Cup and reached the last sixteen of the FA Vase while under
his control in what was a dominant season for East Preston.
Di Paulo has been a regular visi-tor to Gorings Mead since leaving Hastings and will be in no doubt about the extent of the job that lies before him. Horsham FC Chairman Kevin Borrett said on the club’s web site "Dom impressed us im-mensely when we fi rst interviewed him for the manager's position in January but we felt that the start made by Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant earned them the opportunity to try and take us forward. Sadly it didn't work out as we had hoped and so we have given Dom a man-date to start preparing and plan-ning for next season which, unless we are reprieved or the subject of a league reorganisation, is expected to be in the Sussex County League.”
Di Paola’s experience and achievements in the Sussex County League could prove invaluable to the Hornets as their current Ryman League status, as Kevin Borrett recognises, looks almost certain to end in relegation to the Sussex County for next season.
Despite a mini uplift in fortunes when Storey and Cant took over in early January after club stalwart Gary Charman had failed to gain any momentum in the fi rst half
of the season, results and perfor-mances over the past few months have been very poor and the club now sits on the brink of relegation at the foot of the Ryman League South table.
The management duo virtually changed the playing squad com-pletely from the one that operated under Charman’s reign but the huge infl ux of players failed to ar-rest the clubs freefall down the di-visions.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Vice Chairman and CEO John Lines said “The Board appreciates the huge eff ort in time and energy both Anthony and Cliff put in and I don’t think either of them realised just what was involved when they fi rst took over. Unfortunately they did not get the committed response from their players that was needed. We need to start preparing for next season now and this decision was made with that in mind”
Dom Di Paola’s fi rst game in charge, away to second placed Faversham Town tomorrow Sat-urday April 11, could not be much harder. However, a decent perfor-mance and perhaps even a point in Kent would quickly place the new boss fi rmly in the hearts of the long suff ering Hornets fans.

Monday April 6 - Ryman League Division One SouthHorsham 2 - 1 Corinthian-Casuals
FootballDave Smith - Sports Editor
After the appalling display at Wal-ton and Hersham Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant made four changes to the starting line-up in what it turns out was the duo’s last match in charge. Lewis Hamilton, Richie Welch, Ehis Izokun and Storey him-self came in for Jack Hope, Richie Byrne, George Branford and Bailo Camara.
The changes did, after the unac-ceptability of the previous match, produce a better performance and more importantly three points against mid table Corinthian-Casu-als who have nothing left to play for.
The fi rst half produced a number of half chances for both sides, but lit-tle else. The goalless score-line that greeted the referee’s half time whis-tle at least however gave some hope to the Easter Monday crowd, as did a Hornets performance that had fewer errors and slightly more eff ort than of late.
After eleven minutes of the re-start George Branford replaced Gregg Berry and immediately contributed
to the opening goal. Branford put Tony Nwachukwu through in to the penalty area from where his cross was handled by Casuals Andy Mills. Penalty king Nwachukwu smashed in his tenth penalty out of his total of eighteen league goals for the season, which raises the question of how long ago Horsham would have been relegated without Nwachukwu’s con-tribution to his team’s miserly forty-seven league goals.
C a s u a l s were not rocked by the goal and were now having more of the play and cre-ating the best of the oppor-tunities without ever causing Wil-liams too many prob-lems.
Casuals momentum was dis-rupted however when they lost Jamie Byatt to a red card following a clash with Storey that left the Horsham joint manager with a cut eye.
Four minutes from normal time McCreadie eased the nerves with a
terrifi c goal. After winning the ball the out of form Horsham striker bore down on the visitor’s goal and hit a well placed eff ort inside the near post giving keeper Bracken no chance.
Seven minutes were added by the referee, presumably for the stoppage following the Byatt and Storey inci-
dent in which time Wilson-Dennis slotted home at
the far post to spark fears of a come-
back. The Hor-nets however held on for a rare win that is prob-ably too lit-tle too late but it does give anoth-er week of
slight hope before they
travel to Kent tomorrow (Sat-
urday 11) to play second placed Faver-
sham Town when their fate from this miserable season
may well fi nally be decided. Horsham Team: Williams, Ober-
steller, Hamilton (Rogers 37) Storey, Gilbert, Welch, Izokun, Bold (Hope 89) McCreadie, Nwachukwu, Berry (Branford 53). Unused Sub: Maynard.
