He is enrolled in theWharton School ofBusinessand intheSchoolofEngineeringandAppliedScience. After graduation, he will most likely use hisdegrees to pursue something involving business andtechnology,orafinance-relatedfieldorstart-up.AkshayhadaverybusysummeratUPenn,asaresearchanalyst for the Wharton Alternative InvestmentsInitiative and as a research assistant in Wharton’sfinancedepartment.As a freshman, Akshay competed in a contest called“The Huntsman Hacks”. This contest was open tofreshmenandsophomores,aimedatfindingrealworldsolutionstopressingbusiness issues.Thecontestwassponsored by Alibaba, a multibillion-dollar companybasedinChina.BecauseAkshay’steamwonfirstplace,they were awarded with a trip to visit Alibaba’sheadquartersinAugust.
AkshaycontinuestoplaychessthroughparticipationincollegiatetournamentssuchastheInter-IvyLeagueandPanAmericanCollegiatetournaments.Akshay’sinterestinchesscamefromhisdadanduncle.TheybothplayedchessinIndiaandwantedAkshaytoplayalso.Akshay’sparentssenthimtoaschoolwherechesswas includedinthecurriculum.Thechesscoachsaw potential in Akshay and recommended that hepursuecompetitivechess,soAkshay’sdadtookhimtothe Dallas Chess Club, where he played often untilattendingcollegeoutofstate.IaskedAkshaywhathisadvicetokidsisandhesaid,“Bepersistent. Keep trying.Chesshelpsdevelopgood lifeskills, like problem solving and critical thinking anddeterminationtoapplythisstufftoreallifescenarios”.IalsoaskedhimhisfavoriteDCCmemoryandhesaid,“Ilove the community of people.” He loves thiscommunity because you can be playing your worstenemyontheboard,butbebestfriendsofftheboardandplaytennisandbughousebetweentherounds.
