The new switchboard and central i t office equipn|e|t installed in the New
York Telephone Company's new building at Jit Charles Street, Glen Cove, will b# placed in service May 7, it has beefi announced by F. B.
J Devereux, Manager for the Com-
• IT • \ pany. «• J •
The new pofcrd, which is the latest type in use fopr manual operation, has 22 operator's -positions and will replace the exiting unit now located in leased quarters on the third floor of the Glen €|>ve bank building. The new_ equipnielit will serve approximately 6,000 ftelephones, about 1,000 more than ire served by the switchboard now In] use. Looking forward to continued j growth in this section the company !ha& provided a switchboard which ean be enlarged to serve ultimately 1^000 telephones.
When the I change is made from the old swifjciboard to the new, telephone user* 1 will not be inconvenienced in W slightest degree. An elaborate system of duplicate wiring connecting thje two switchboards will
able to cut the old >ut of^service and the ito service without in-ie conversation of any
who happen io be using the telephone at the timd fof the transfer-
Just prior Ito the time of the cut-over both s\|itchboards will function in unision through an installation of duplicate writing. At the exact moment decided! for the cut-over master cords at bojtl offices will be pulled— automatical!)! cutting off service at the old office and giving life to the
ments will be provided for the new board except that the cords will be attached to small wedges inserted in the relays of the telephone circuits. When both of these master cords are pulled simultaneously, at the given signal, the fuses will be removed from all lines at once in the old office disconnecting the service at that point, and the small wedges blocking the circuits of the lines in the new office will be displaced switching the service from the old to the new.
The rapid development of Gler Cove and its attendant increased demand for telephone service has made necessary the provision of the splen lid new building and new central of fice equipment. On January 1, 1925 there were 3,521 telephones in service in the district, and this number ha< increased to 5,078 by March 1, 1929 an average yearly growth of 375.

BUDGET APPROVED AT PUBLIC HEARING
(Continued from page 1) $1.00 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to $1.50. This is only a* increase of 50 per cent. While on this question I also feel that wo should definitely define what does constitute a resident. In the past, people have'been known to rent a house and declare they intended to stay the year 'round. On this basis they rented a bath house at a lower rate because they were considered residents. However, in many cases these people left for the city at the close of the season. I suggest that we consider a person a resident only if they have actually lived in Sea Clin* for the past year.
As a matter of fact, it has always seemed to a great many people
that the actual administration 6f the pavilion is not carried on a strictly business basis. I also feel this way and suggest that a committee composed of members of the Village Board be appointed to supervise the running of the pavilion with regard to improvements, repairs, administration and financial and other such matters as properly may come before them from time to time.
The matters referred to by Trustee Gill were gone over very thoroughly by the Board and after discussion a resolution was passed that all residents and property owners are entitled to the present rate and that all others will be charged an increase of $5.00 on each room. Transient rooms by day to be decided later.
It was also resolved that a com mittee of two be appointed by the Mayor to act as a Committee on the Bathing Pavilion and that Trustees Koop and Gill be appointed a Committee on the Bathing Pavilion.
Resolved, that applications be received for bath houses up to Tuesday, May 21st, 1929, at which time same will be allotted. The Clerk waa directed to have notice of same published. ~
here! is an old Russian saying which runs something like this: "Our cottages stand far apart* and I don't know what you are talking about* Until within fairly recent years the distance bjetween peoples of the earth formed such effective barriers that the thoughts, the customs, and the industries of commulHties a hundred miles apart were as alien to each other as though they had been at the ends of the earth.
n It m no longer possible for people anywhere in this country to Jay *7 don 7 know what yop are talking about. * Oder the lines of this company alone, nearly 24,000,000 people talk to each other every day—messages that are moving cottages together and making neighbors of ail Peoples.
