Blue Tees
Members will have noticed Blue tee markers on the golf course. These forward
teeing locations are sometimes referred to as the Divot Tees and playing at approxi-
mately 3,000 yards provide a course for new golfers or those that wish to practise
their game from a shorter perspective. They are not yet officially rated at this time.

Couples Invitational Tournament (formerly the Husband & Wife)
The tournament is making a modest change for this year. The tournament organiz-
ers are hoping to attract more couples by creating a more casual event and thereby
attract more spouses to participate. For more information on this event click here
Driving Range Update
The extremely hot & dry conditions have forced the Board to re-evaluate the timing
for opening the range for use. The above ground irrigation system has been put to
the test just to keep the new turf from going dormant. Without daily watering the
tender new grass would not survive. The surface irrigation pipes must remain in
place until the weather cools off substantially. The Board is also evaluating the
overall condition of the perimeter netting to determine the most effective way to
adapt the existing netting to the new range contours.

TEE TALK
Pitt Meadows Golf Club
We are within a few weeks of our fiscal year end, and despite the extraordinary condi-
tion of our golf course, it is clear now, that we will fall short of our budgeted income for
the year.
Membership recruiting has been steady, and it is very encouraging to note that we have
more Members at PMGC today than we did at this time last year. However, many golf-
ers today, are shifting to more limited play categories, and this obviously effects our net
Membership income: year-end shortfall projected to be about 3%.
Food and Beverage net income results are disappointing, and we will show significantly
less net income at year end than budgeted. Members please note: our Food and Bever-
age Departments have done reasonably well with outside Tournaments, Banquets, and
with full service weddings. Not so well with Member Services. Members aren't using
our Restaurant and Bar services as much as they have in the past.
The obvious question of course, is how do we manage a projected loss of income? As
Member/shareholders, we need to deal with this shortfall, and traditionally Boards have
assessed the Members at year end to balance the books. This Board however, will not
be doing that. Our Banking agreement with BMO, confirmed by the special resolution
in May 2014, provides The Club some flexibility to deal with this shortfall during the
short-term. Going forward restructuring our activities, our expectations, and our organi-
zation from top to bottom, will allow a pay down of this extra funding, in relatively short
order.
Restructuring the organization of a 50 year old Member owned Club is not a simple pro-
cess, and will take some time. We have to be considerate of the responsibility we all
have as employers, and as citizens in our community. It is important that we take the
time to allow our staff some input, as we analyze those potential changes needed to meet
our budgetary requirements. It is important as well, to recognize this analysis and plan-
ning, is being done by volunteer Board Members, who bring their skills and time to a
new challenge. We expect to have a 'town hall' meeting in late September, to discuss
with all interested Members, the direction we see for this Club in the next few years.
As most Members already know, Mike Pierce, our General Manager for the past twelve
years, is officially retiring at the Club’s fiscal year-end, September 30, 2014. The Board
has no plans to hire a replacement General Manager - for the foreseeable future. Jane
Mackenzie, Club Controller, and Laurie Shong, Membership Director, will handle Mem-
bers communications, and we have a Management Committee structured from within the
Board to oversee Club business pro-tem.
Finally, the Driving Range project: The range will not be open this year. We have been
advised by many experts, including our Greens Superintendent, that it has simply not
grown in enough to use it, and that we would incur more costs repairing damage done,
by using it too soon. This is disappointing for all, but rest assured, when completed, we
will have a much improved practice facility, and one that truly compliments the great
condition we have seen this year on our golf course.
In the meantime, enjoy the golf course, bring a guest, stay for dinner - enjoy.

Biggest Thank you! A couple of months ago, I approached Dave Zeiler about purchasing a tree for Ian; to plant on the golf course in his memory. Dave bought a lovely horse chestnut tree and planted it on the 9
th fairway. You can see it waving in the
breeze (just on the other side of the creek) from the clubhouse. I asked Dave about paying for the tree, and to my delight he told it was paid for. He said many people contributed to the cost of the tree. I would like to thank all of you. I really appreciate the generosity of the many friends Ian and I have at Pitt Meadows. Sincerely, Donna Millman

Maintenance Items Up For Review From Round Table Discussion*
Foot brush on #11 to be replaced.
Some of our holes appear to be raised and members should take
care when removing the flag from the hole.
Sand and seed bins are not always full because decisions need to be
made each day to identify the course maintenance priorities.
Cutting greens takes precedence to filling the bins.
Removal/trim of hedges on the right of #13 green to allow sun onto
the green. This will improve the health of the green.
Patching on the putting green and #8, 14, 16 & 18 greens will be
done in the fall.
Considering adding a cart path to the left of the #6 green.

The Club recently hosted a golf tournament put on by member Violet Javerina to hon-
our the memory of her husband Rene who passed away last December. Rene’s 60th
birthday would have been on this day. Part of the celebration included singing happy
birthday and releasing 60 helium-filled balloons from the Club’s deck. It was rather
prophetic that one of the balloons got caught up in the deck roof. It was almost as if
the balloon was reluctant to leave the comfortable gathering of Rene’s friends and rela-
tives. After a short time it too was released to join the other heaven-bound balloons .
A bidding farewell to a wonderful man. You’ll be missed Rene!
