Profesorado Semipresencial Lingstica 1 (3er ao) Prof. Laura Musto 2014 Unit 3 Task 15 Languages in contact This is the last task related to Unit 3, Sociolinguistics. It deals with a topic that somehow is alien to us... but its not really so. It may be difficult to us to imagine what a pidgin looks/feels like, or to see in a creole the languages that gave birth to it. However, we just have to travel a few kilometres to the Uruguayan border with Brazil to encounter bilingualism and diglossia... although few of us are aware of it. - Read Spolskys Sociolinguistics, 44 to 50 and pages 61 to 65 and define the following: - what is bilingualism - what is code switching and code mixing - what is a pidgin - what is a creole - what is diglosia - Read the Documentos e Informes Tcnicos de la Comisin de Polticas Lingsticas en la Educacin Pblica, ANEP-CODICEN, 2006-2007 (available in Internet via a Google search). - briefly summarize the linguistic situation in the north of Uruguay(pages 64to 66) - briefly summarize ANEPs policies in relation to this (pages 66 to70) This task must be completed between 2 June and 22 August. We will write about these issues in the forum.
