Thirty years ago, our agency began as a group home with a handful of motivated staff and 12 students to care for. Over the years, we have quantified and defined our services and approach and have built a family of programs around a strengths-based philosophy and doing the right things for youth. Sycamore Academy is no exception.Today, our program is based on an individualized approach to promote positive youth outcomes through therapeutic and educational environments, using research-informed practices, and delivered by caring and competent staff who are accountable to continually improving services based on outcomes. In addition, a series of seven core values guide our work with students:

1. Safety and accountability2. Responsibility3. Student-centered approach4. Rich programs and opportunities5. Staff contributions6. Family and partnerships7. Continuous learning

Sycamore Canyon Academy has been blessed to have great partnerships and support from our local community, including Oracle, SaddleBrooke, San Manuel and Mammoth. The SaddleBrooke Community Outreach, a non-profit agency located 30 minutes from the campus, has been partnering with SCA for the past six years. While they provide many services to the youth here at SCA, tutoring is by far the most significant. Over the years, many tutors have come to our campus to work with and mentor our students. The SaddleBrooke tutors are on site three days a week helping with math and other subjects as needed, as well as mentoring and providing positive role modeling to our young men. Nearly 300 students have benefited from these tutoring sessions. Several people including Allen Crawford, Bob Evans, Dennis Anderson, Dwain Sell, have generously given their time and efforts to our youth.

Mr. Bob Evans, a SaddleBrooke volunteer, also helps provide our young men with “street” clothes prior to them exiting the program through Kids’ Closet, a primary program of SaddleBrooke Community Outreach. Kids’ Closet provides our young men with new wardrobes, which makes a tremendous difference in their self-esteem as they transition home.

Additionally, the SaddleBrooke volunteers sponsor our students during the Christmas holidays to ensure each student has a gift to open. Mr. Evans stated, “our mission at SaddleBrooke is to make a positive impact on the lives of children in need from neighboring communities through improved self-respect, better school attendance, and higher scholastic achievement. It’s all about the kids, there are some phenomenal young men here at Sycamore Canyon Academy.”
