In later years a quarry was operated here. Shipbuilding and related industries provided employment for the residents of the town during the 19th century.

He and a group of men from the Massachusetts Bay Colony (“Ten Adventurers”) spent the winter of 1634 in huts on the bank of the Con-necticut River at what is now Wethersfield Cove. A larger group came the fol-lowing year. First called Watertown, the name of the settlement was changed to Wethersfield for a town in Essex, England. The town of Wethersfield origi-nally included the present towns of Glastonbury, Newington and Rocky Hill.
