STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES: PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

LEGAL OBLIGATIONS

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is designed to protect the wearer’s body from injury or contamination. There is a delicate balance between ensuring adequate protection and eliminating unnecessary PPE to reduce the potential for heat exhaustion.

TOO LITTLE: Inadequate protection TOO MUCH: Heat stroke risk

■ Incorrect PPE■ PPE worn incorrectly

Provides minimal, or no protection, against the potential risks posed by pesticide.

■ Increased risk of heat stroke.

Many pesticide application operations occur during the summer months and during the heat of the day.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

■ 2-piece conti-suit or overall■ Gumboots■ PVC gloves■ Sunhat

All PPE is in good working order. NO leaks or cuts. Respirators fit correctly and the cartridge is the correct one for the pesticide being applied.
