Pastor’s Ponderings

‐ We want to wish all of our parishioners a very Happy Thanksgiving as we celebrate the national holiday this Thursday, November 23, and also to invite everyone to our Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9 a.m. that day. The word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek word for “Thanksgiving.” What better way to express our thanks to God for his many blessings than to come to participate in the Eucharist! Let us gather at the Lord’s table and then go forth to our family tables. All are invited to bring bread to the 9 a.m. Mass on Nov. 23 to be blessed for your Thanksgiving meal. Please note: there will be no Mass on Friday, Nov. 24. ‐ IN MEMORIAM Please pray for the repose of the soul of parishioner Madelyn (‘Mady’) Bertalott, age 18, who passed away last week, and please pray for the Lord to comfort and strengthen her family and friends at this difficult time. We express our condolences to her father, Tom (Yvette), and her mother, Melissa, and to all family, friends, and relatives. ‐ Many youth from our diocese – including several from our parish ‐ will be joining 20,000+ other Catholic youth from around the country for the National Catholic Youth Conference this weekend in Indianapolis. Please pray that the conference brings grace and blessing to those attending and bears fruit as they return. ‐ Our monthly Holy Hour for Vocations will not be held this month, but please plan to join us for First Friday next week! Sign‐up for an hour of Adoration or plan to stop in for a visit with our Lord on December 1. ‐ Pope Francis has requested a special celebration be added to the calendar this year: World Day of the Poor, to be celebrated on Nov. 19. Our diocese usually takes up a special collection for Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri and their service to pregnant mothers, poor and needy, and veterans. This weekend, please join us as we answer the call of our Pope by supporting Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri. Your support is important as we reach out, provide hope, and change lives. ‐ OUR LADY’S ROSARY MAKERS: Have you ever been interested in learning to make rosaries for our local community, as well as to send to the missions around the world? Join us in the Gathering Space on Mon., Nov. 20 and again on Wed., Nov. 29 (10:30 a.m. each day). Materials are provided and instruction is free. ‐ St. Joseph the Worker Parish is making plans to host an Advent/Christmas Novena, beginning on December 16 and ending on December 24 immediately before Christmas Eve Mass. Each evening will consist of song, scripture, meditation, and prayer. We are currently looking for musicians, readers, and leaders to assist with each of the nights. The novena will begin each evening at 6:30 and conclude by 6:45 (except for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24). Please see Fr. Scott for more information or call the office to be a part of this parish event!

Sacraments ADORATION: The Blessed Sacrament is exposed on First Fridays from 9:30 a.m. until Benediction at 9:30 p.m. BAPTISM OF INFANTS: Preparation classes for registered parishioners are scheduled as‐needed. Expectant parents or parents of newborns can register for a class by contacting the parish office or emailing [email protected]. BAPTISM OF ADULTS: Please contact the parish office to arrange for participation in RCIA. MARRIAGE PREPARATION: Our diocesan policy requires the parish priest be contacted at least six months prior to the proposed date of the couples’ wedding to schedule preparation catechesis. ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If facing serious illness, please contact the parish office to arrange for anointing. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION, FIRST SACRAMENTS, CONFIRMATION: As of August 2017, we are directing a “whole‐family catechesis” program for families, sacramental preparation classes on Sundays, as well as other classes for youth and adults. A Sung High Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the

Roman Rite will be celebrated at our parish on Thursday, Nov. 30 (the Feast of St. Andrew) at 6:30 p.m.

Fr. Joseph Kelly, associate pastor of the parishes in

Branson and Forsyth, will be the celebrant. Everyone is

invited! Missal booklets with Latin and English text will be

provided, as well as supplemental texts with the

Propers of the Mass (readings, antiphons, etc.) in Latin and English. Please mark your

calendar and plan to join us for this special commemoration of

St. Andrew the Apostle.

Our Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) will again sponsor the “Giving Tree,” with eight families adopted

through a program with ‘Least of These’ in Nixa, as well as nursing home residents. The tree with ornaments will be available beginning this week. Please take an ornament off the tree, buy the gift listed on the ornament, wrap the gift, and return it to the parish the weekend of December 2‐3. Call June Rhodes with any questions (417‐581‐1418).

The 3rd Annual ADVENT‐ure Retreat, coordinated by our parish’s St. Anne’s Guild, is

coming up soon! Once again, the retreat will feature three evenings of food, fellowship, and fun, and the ADVENT‐ure will conclude with a special youth‐focused Mass at 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 17.

Mark your calendars for retreat activities from 5:30‐7:30 p.m.

Wed., Dec. 13. All youth pre‐K and older are invited to

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Regional Diocesan Perpetual Adoration Chapel at Holy Trinity’s Chapel will be suspended at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, and will

It warns against the dangers of sloth, whereby God‐given blessings and abilities are squandered because of fear and laziness. Personal diligence, however, is greatly rewarded with superior gifts and responsibilities. Parents Prayer for Vocations Gracious and loving God, you have blessed us with the privilege of becoming parents. We ask that you provide us with all that we need in accepting this awesome

responsibility. We pray that we will be open to your spirit, who is our source of strength, as we witness to our children your love for each of them and your desire for them to be happy and to live a full life. We ask your help so we may guide and encourage our children to believe that they each have a special calling and

to use their gifts and talents for others. We pray, Heavenly Father, that our children will discover and respond enthusiastically to your desire for them whether it be to the vocation of single, married, ordained or

consecrated life. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus through the grace of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
