St. Augustine & St. Edward Catholic Churches

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

We all face challenges and trials. And often, we look for answers merely on the human

plane. We try to resolve or fix the problem or situation on our own and/or only with worldly

solutions. This may, in turn, give us a temporary fix and relief but ultimately gets us nowhere

and often to greater strife or mess. We wrongly look for resolve or security from our own

power.

Rather we need to look to God for assistance, answers, and resolve. He has designed

and created us. He knows our lives better than we do. Therefore, we need to turn to Him

while using His grace to direct and guide us along the earthly plane. At the same time, this

makes our faith real and practical. Our faith needs to be part of our daily life and a factor in

the midst of our everyday occurrences. Our relationship with God needs to become a lived

faith, not merely something relegated to Sunday or other particular and specific occasions.

God will always lead us to peace and renewed hope. He will not take away all

difficulties and challenges, but He will remain with us and see us through all things in

life. The greatest gift we can give to God, who has given us every good gift, is our trust in

Him. We should trust in the words that Jesus taught us and that we say in the Lord’s prayer:

“Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.” In our need, we have to trust God to see fit for

our temporal and eternal life. He alone has the power and authority to resolve the most

difficult situations. We alone need to surrender our own will and our very lives.

We need never forget that where there is darkness, there is always imminent light ready

to dispel the darkness. That is Christ’s promise to us; to remain with us always. Christ is the

light for our steps. Look always for the light. Surrender to that light. Let nothing fill you with

despair. Christ has won the victory with His death and resurrection yesterday, today, and

forever.

Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything!

Consider praying the 9 day SURRENDER NOVENA: www.catholicexchange.com

Blessings,

Father Steffes

We have hired a Faith Formation Director for our parishes. She and her

husband and their daughter are in the process of securing their VISAS from

the US embassy in the Philippines, their home. We are excited to have them

join us and share their educational background, gifts, and faith. They are in

the last phase of the approval. Please keep this and them in prayer. Thus,

we will begin CGS Formation on Wednesday, September 29. Traditional

Faith Formation for 110th Grade will begin around midOctober. We will

continue to communicate details as they develop. If you are interested in

teaching in the program, please get in touch with me.

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Gracious and loving God, we

thank you for the gift of our

priests. Through them, we experi-

ence your presence in the sacra-

ments.

Help our priests to be strong in

their vocation.

Set their souls on

fire with love for

your people.

Grant them the wisdom, under-

standing, and strength they need

to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Inspire them with the vision of

your Kingdom.

Give them the words they need to

spread the Gospel.

Allow them to experience joy in

their ministry.

Help them to become instruments

of your divine grace.

We ask this through Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns as our Eter-

nal Priest. Amen.

"[T]he existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal be-

ings that Sacred Scripture usually calls "angels" is a

truth of faith. Angels are pure, created spirits. The

name angel means servant or messenger of God. An-

gels are celestial or heavenly beings, on a higher or-

der than human beings. Angels have no bodies and

do not depend on matter for their existence or activi-

ty. They are distinct from saints, which men can be-

come. Angels have intellect and will, and are immor-

tal. They are a vast multitude, but each is an indi-

vidual person. Archangels are one of the nine choirs

of angels listed in the Bible. In ascending order, the

choirs or classes are 1) Angels, 2) Archangels, 3)

Principalities, 4) Powers, 5) Virtues, 6) Domina-

tions, 7) Thrones, 8) Cherubim, and 9) Seraphim.

FEAST OF SAINTS MICHAEL, GABRIEL,

AND RAPHAEL, ARCHANGELS

Three archangels are venerated in the tradi-

tion of the Church. Michael (Who is like

God?) was the archangel who fought against

Satan and all his evil angels, defending all

the friends of God. He is the protector of all

humanity from the snares of the devil. Ga-

briel (Strength of God) announced to Zacha-

riah the forthcoming birth of John the Bap-

tist, and to Mary, the birth of Jesus. His

greeting to the Virgin, "Hail, full of grace," is

one of the most familiar and frequent pray-

ers of the Christian people. Raphael

(Medicine of God) is the archangel who took

care of Tobias on his journey.

O God, who dispose in

tries both angelic and
