Friday the 20th
of November the agricultural sector will be in a large scale strike and
the 21st
there will be a massive demonstration in Madrid. The 3 largest unions has
come to an agreement and wil strike together with 40.000 irrigators. The problems
of the irrigators is that they have invested new more efficient machinery but with a
90% increase in the energy prices over a year they claim its impossible to continue
distribute water to the growers. We expect the period to be paralyzed with few to
none activity in the sector.
In valencia they are worried abouth plagues coming in from oversea citrus products.
This year the import of south african citrus has been only half of last year due to
restrictions but the plaques has risen to record high 68% in all the containers con-
trolled. Bear in mind Spain is the most sensible country to citrus plagues so probably
citrus coming in different ports of Europos will not be quarantained. If the plagues
will extend to the valencian fields we risk to see somthing similar of what has hap-
pened to the kaki with up to 80% of the crop lost. The unions in Valencia wants to
totally ban import of South African citrus.

Avocado:
Due to strong wind this week there
has been a lot of Hass falling from the
trees and some or many of these has
been marketed. They begin to pack of
better and safe quality this week.
Right now they are only on 25% of
normal capacity and until December
there will be few quantities. In Green
skin there are only small sizes due to
too much heat in summer and too
littel water. They are awaiwint some
rain so the fruits can grow.
Beans:
Both Spain and maroc been on the
market.
Broccoli:
Large quantities and good quality.
Capsicum:
Huge quantities and little to no de-
mand. Yellow is cheap and red also.
Only green and orange maintain a lit-
tle. Sweet bite is ready and Palermo,
Ramiro and Capia in all colours as well.
A culinaric experience on same level as
the organic cherry tomato is the yellow
capia. It has a brix of 8 compared to 7
of the orange and the familiar sweet
red snack is down to 6 degre-
es.....Beware of the different qualities.
Capsicum with thin wall is still a pro-
blem and their comercial life is far
shorter than the caps of better quality.
The chili pepper is now of good quality
also.
Cauliflower:
Super quality and all sizes. Very very
tasty and tender now with the new
crop
Celery:
starts now week
47 with the first
departures

Clementines:
The volumes of clementines are rising
but without prices going down. Growers
are not in a hurry to sell this year and
further to that the extreme heat this
year ( hottest october since 1971) the
fruits are not taking colour on the trees
and warehouses are less busy. The ex-
porting warehouses are in a situation
they are not used to as they can claim
reasonable prices since new markets as
for instance Poland are paying rather
high prices and cant even get the de-
manded quantities. Right now there is
now indication that prices will fall and if
there are any movements it will most
probably be a rise in prices as we are
getting close to the peak of the season.
However it has proven to be very diffi-
cult to prognostic the tendency with pri-
ces and makink fixed season prices has
been almost impossible.
Courgettes:
Steady prices and good quality
Cucumber:
Lots of optimism when the temperatu-
res fell from Monday to Tuesday and
relatively hiogh prices on the auktions
Monday morning.....then came the sun
back and temperatures rose back to 20+
in daytime and above 14 during night.
Prices has been falling continously since
Monday and already now full trocks are
being offered way below cost of produc-
tion. Until temperatures will maintain
steady under 15 in daytime and 5 during
night there is nothing that indictas pri-
ces will rise. Many supermarkes have
made small programs and there is a panic
now sending trucks up through europe
without destination.
Iceberg:
Good quality that only gets better since its
getting colder but now maybe a little too
light. The cyclus of Iceberg is now 65 days
compared to the normal 90. They are in
other words far ahead in harvesting and
they now predict a huge gap in production
the last week of the year or the first week
in the new year. Depending of course of
the climate.

Kaki:
The sharon and Persimon of Huelva
has prooved to be in perfect
conditions. No skin damages and no
overriped fruits and no black
pulps...Hopefully they will eliminate
the problem soon in Valencia. Its a
complete disaster and up to 80% are
wastes this season. Prices remain
steady with the Valencian Kaki as an
incognito ! if there is any good qualty
they will be expensive and if they are
cheap probably its because the
quality is still poor.
Lemon:
Is there many cheap Spanish lemons
on the free markets ?? There are
some cheap to be found but how
man. In Spain they say different. No
sizes and growers are not negotiating
prices. Hences prices remain high and
its virtually impossible to make full
programs in the same size. Prices will
rather go up the coming weeks and
they are in no hurry to sell. The
demand will come sooner or later and
with the increasing quality problems
with other origens soon there will be
mainly Spanish lemon on the market.
Little gem:
Continues with usual good quality
Oranges:
Although the prices are high compared
to other seasons we are finally seeing a
tendency of lower prices which howe-
ver probably will last no longer than
few weeks since the waste of Naveline
in the field is up to 40%
Pomegranade:
still nice quality and prices remain
steady although they will soon rise.
Rasperry:
Increasing production in the varieties
with double cyclus. Good quality of
Glen Lyon and Brilliant and lots of pro-
blems with Sugana. The volumes are
increasing as we are getting closer to
christmas.
Romane salad:
Problem because of the strong winds.
They are taking of the outer leaves sin-
ce they have been damaged so we do
not recommend loading until the next
crop not affeed is ready. I.e in 4 days
Stawberry:
Plants have been put again since they
were too affected by the heat the last
weeks and seemingly the temperatures
will decline now. But the strawberries
are very much depending of the clima-
te right now. First Maroc is marketed
with departure from Spain.

Tomatoes:
Lots of tomatoes and low prices. Many
cherry and plum cherry and low prices.
The demand of trimix is increasing. The
sunstream and rhe romantico are very
tasty now. There is a novelty underway
which is a Kumato Cherry....a Black che-
rry with same characteristic as the Ku-
mato. On the biologic front the quality is
absolutely excellent and the say with
longer commercial life than treated to-
matoes. The aroma is superb and parti-
culary the bio cherry is tasty with brix 2
points higher than the conventio-
nal...Maybe worth trying and the price
differential is not too excessive.
Xanadu:
This novelty is what is considering to be
replacing little gem. Full grown it has the
same size as the little gem, or a little lar-
ger, but its does not have the bitternes of
the little gem. Its sweet as its cousin the
Romaine salad but more tender and with
much more dark green leaves.
