Tidy Towns Competition: The judging fo r the National Tidy Towns Competi-tion will start this coming weekend and will continue until mid-August. Again we would like to thank all those who are doing such a great job at painting their prem-ises and planting window boxes and baskets. Adopt a Barrel: Keeping plan ts watered can be a p roblem in the summer-time, so we would ask if businesses or people living adjacent to a barrel would adopt a barrel and keep it watered. Can people let Joe Murphy know if they will look af ter a barrel? Street Sweeping: The street sweeper is due to come on Friday morning so we are asking people if possible, can they use the public carpark or the back-streets for parking until it is f inished? Dog Litter: Kerry County Council have kindly donated two Dog Litter Bag dis-pensers. These are in place one down the Quay Road and the other on the wall of the walkway behind the Stone House. We thank those who have used these and kindly ask that all dog owners walking their dogs please scoop the poop. Mass in the Graveyard: Wil l take place on Tuesday 21st July. Kenmare & District Garden ClubKenmare & District Garden ClubKenmare & District Garden ClubKenmare & District Garden Club Kenmare and District Garden Club The Club meetings at Gateway have now f inished until September but we ended on a high note with a delightful talk f rom Connie Downey on Roses. The selection of roses she brought along to discuss and then sell were a credit to her nursery, Garra Fado on Beara. There was a huge variety and all looked so lush and healthy and she obviously practises what she told us about their requirements. Fairly heavy moisture-retentive soil, a good feed in late March/April and manure or leafmould in the autumn with pruning to keep them in shape. There will be two day trips before we meet again in the evening at Gateway – one to the Munster Food and Garden Show on 5th July (which is presently fully booked) and the second on 28th July to the Cork area (more about this by text or email message). Should anyone wish to join the Club or get further information, please contact our Secretary, Geraldine on 086 3935965.

Keepsake boxes Sneem Family Festival Committee are looking for wooden boxes (any size) or old suitcases (like the ones pictured) for artists to paint for this year’s charity auction, money raised will go to the Rockmount Day Centre in Kilgarvan. f you can help please email: [email protected] or drop them off to the Resource Centre.
