•Monet’s style was impressionism.

•Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, France. he started painting around the 1850’s. He said, “It was as if a veil suddenly lifted from my eyes and I knew that I could be a painter.”

•When he was younger we often went on trips around France to paint. His friend Camille often came along with him. Later she became his wife. They had two sons together. In 1878 she got sick and died. A few years later he got married again to a woman named Alice.

•After he married Alice he moved his family to Giverny, a small town near Paris. This is where he painted most of the famous paintings that we see today. Their house had a wonderful garden with flowers and they had a pond with a Japanese bridge across it. These were his favorite things to paint.

•Monet died in 1926 in Giverny. Many people came to his funeral because unlike many artists of his time he was quite famous before he died.

•"Impression, Sunrise" was painted in 1872. This was one of Monet’s most famous paintings. Also, everyone has seen water lilies. This has become one of his most well known paintings ever. You can ask almost anyone if they know of this painting and more often then not they do.

•His biggest influences were Eugène Delacroix, Diego Velazquez, and Gustave Courbet.

• most of the time he painted landscapes but occasionally he would paint family and friends.

• Monet liked to paint water. He loved the way things reflected in water. Boats, oceans, and lakes were his favorite things to paint.
