PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN—In Honor of Parshat Metzora and Shabbat Hagadol

The opening verse of the parsha (14:2), which describes the purification of the one afflicted with tzara'as - leprosy, teaches "vehuva el haKohen" - he should be brought to the Kohen. Rav Yeruchum Levovitz z"tl, the mashgiach of the Mir Yeshiva, notes the contrast between the metzorah and the Nazir - the nazirite - regard-ing whom, in conjunction with his purification in Parshas Naso (6:13), the Torah says "yavi oso" and Rashi teaches, he brings himself. Regarding the metzorah, who too often was a follower of the wrong crowd, with whom he spoke lashon hara, he needs to "switch gears" - change his crowd, and agree to be brought for the purification process that ultimately will lead him to his new noble way of life. This is in contrast to the Nazir who has the strength of character, knows that he wants to grow spiritually, and therefore brings himself even if there are no others to support him. The Korban Pesach was brought b'chaburah - in a group; we too must be especially careful to be with an uplifting chaburah.

NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS The Nursery School children are experiencing Pesach with all of their senses. They tasted sweet, salty, bitter and sour foods dipped into all sorts of interesting concoctions! The Young Explorers had a bread tasting culinary experience where they sampled ba-gels, crackers, breadsticks and croutons. They chose the croutons as their favorite cha-metz product! They also did some amazing science experiments replicating the splitting of the Yam Suf using milk, water, food coloring and pepper! Their reaction was priceless, much like the Jewish people leaving Mitzrayim. They learned about triangles and pyra-mids and built pyramid towers out of blocks and cups. They cleaned the classroom and “changed over" the dishes in the kitchen center to Pesach plates and cutlery. All of the children enjoyed singing Pesach and Spring songs during Music with Morah Evelyn, where they built big towers out of drums. The highlight of the week was baking matzahs at Morah Esther's Matzah factory! The children poured water and flour, shaped their own round matzahs and pierced holes in them with forks. They baked the matzahs quickly and enjoyed them as a yummy snack with cream cheese! The Infant- Toddlers also learned about baking matzah and pizza with a peel. They love the matzah ball song and the story about Lotsa Matzah!
