Peer Tutoring: Peer tutoring is made up

of 8th grade NJHS students and/or

SPHS students who volunteer their time

to act as peer tutors as well as current

6th, 7th, or 8th grade students who need

some extra help improving their grades, assistance with

organizational skills, and useful strategies to refine study

skills. Tutors will need to attend a onetime training on

October 5 at 3:05 pm in the media. If you are unable to

attend, please see Mrs. Conrad to receive training at

school. NJHS students can use the service hours in tu-

toring as part of their commitment to NJHS. Students

who would like to be tutored can attend tutoring sessions

as often as they need them but do need to get parent

permission. Peer Tutoring will begin Thursday, October

12nd. See Mrs. Conrad for details. Tutoring meets

YEARBOOK: The yearbook is currently ac-

cepting applications to join the yearbook

staff. We are looking for a dedicated staff

that can make a commitment to attend week-

ly after school club sessions and work at

home. We need students who enjoy writing, taking pic-

tures, marketing and working with a computer program to

design the 2018-2019 yearbook. If you are interested

Varsity Choir: Auditioned group that meets on Mon-day's from 3:10-5:00. Participants must be registered for chorus class. Auditions will be held on Sept. 24-25 from 3:10-6:00 pm. Results will be posted on September 25 at 9:00pm on spmssings.org. The first rehearsal is Wednes-day, September 26 from 3:05-5:00, fol-lowed by a mandatory parents meeting at 5:00. Performances include seasonal con-certs and events and an overnight Music in the Parks trip. . SPRING MUSICAL: Open to all SPMS students. Audi-tions will take place early January. Results will be posted shortly after. Rehearsals will take place from January thru March on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school from 3:10-6:00 and the occasional Saturday as needed. Shows take place March 29-31. The first re-hearsal for students will be announced when the audition dates are posted. Parents are required to attend a meet-ing on Tuesday, January 15 at 7:00 pm. The musical is a big event that can't happen without volunteer effort. Parent volunteers are needed and appreciated. An audi-tion jitters workshop will be held on Monday, December 17 from 3:10-5:00.

Audition Requirements: Sing 16 measures from a musical of the student’s choice with CD accompaniment (no vocals on CD). Perform a small dance number taught and performed together in small groups. Vo-cal audition dates are January 2-3 and dance auditions are Jan. 4. For more

Yoga Club: is presented by our very own certified yoga teacher, Ms. Hartman.—Students will benefit from an introduction of yoga poses and breathing techniques. Students will learn to incorporate the breathing tech-niques and poses into their daily routines to calm or en-ergize when needed. The club provides benefits including stress relief, increased concentration, flexibility and strength. Students will especially enjoy the relaxation time at the end of our practice to unwind from the busy

The purpose of the program is to inspire reading for pleasure and promote life-long reading habits by en-couraging students to read, discuss, and enjoy quali-ty, contemporary literature. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CLUB: The students in this club will have fun while developing an appreci-ation for the environment. Students will participate in projects and activities focusing on environmental

MODEL UNITED NATIONS CLUB: Members of the Model UN Club will meet to debate and research current affairs going on in our world. Our school will be assigned to represent a nation in the world. We will become familiar with

global problems facing that nation and prepare to debate those problems at a county-wide conference. If you are interested in current events, social stud-ies and love to debate then this is the club for you! YouthRise/Leo: Leo Clubs provide young people with an opportunity for development and contribution as responsible members of their local community. Leo Club provides members with the camaraderie and growth that comes from partic-ipation in community service projects, social functions, and leadership development. SGA: (Student Government Association) is an intro-duction to student government pro-cedures and activities. Student del-egates must be able to attend SGA meetings twice a month with the first meeting on September 28. There are also monthly field trips. Delegates must want to be

active members and future leaders of both their school and community. Students are involved in SGA at the school, county and state levels. Inter-ested students should stay after school for the first meeting on September 28. This activity is of no cost to students, except for overnight stays (Ocean City for example).
