Sendyne SFPGFDMOD Ground Fault Detection and Current Measurement
DescriptionThe Sendyne SFPGFDMOD is a module showcasing
Sendyne’s ground fault detection, high voltage and
current measurement/Coulomb counting IC.
Sendyne’s AEC-Q100 qualified SFPGFD continuously
monitors isolation resistance for deterioration of isola-
tion and possible dangerous levels of leakage current.
It is able to detect all sources of leakage, including
multiple simultaneous asymmetrical and symmetrical
faults, as well as resistive shorts between the chassis
and points in the battery that have the same potential
as the chassis. An advanced algorithm applies deep fil-
tering and averaging on the measured data, resulting
in a high level of noise rejection. After a start-up time
of 4 seconds, the system provides the measured value
of the isolation resistance. Thereafter, the system
continuously monitors the isolation resistance with
new values provided every two seconds.
That said, the magnitudes of the voltage excursions
and noise are continuously monitored for their effect
on the measurement accuracy; when noise or momen-
tary fluctuations would bring about deterioration of
the measurement accuracy past a pre-set value (typi-
cally ± 5%), the system stops the updates for the
isolation resistance value until the high levels of noise
subside.
In addition to providing isolation monitoring, the
SFPGFD module has four high voltage channels that
can be used for monitoring pre-charge status, state
of fuses, contactors, etc. All six voltage channels can
measure ±450 V continuous and ±650 V momentary
overvoltage. These levels can easily be extended for
systems operating at higher voltages.
The module also provides precision current measure-
ment (±0.25%) for a measurement range of
±300 A continuous, ±1500 A peak, over the full
temperature range of -40 OC to +125 OC.

Evaluation System ComponentsThe SFPGFDMOD system consists of the SFP104EVB
AFE board (that includes Sendyne’s SFPGFD IC
thermally coupled to the attached 25-μΩ shunt ) and
the SFPC104ASY I/O/Power Isolator and Excitation
Driver board.
LIN Node Configuration File (NCF)Sendyne provides a Node Capability File (NCF) for
communications with the SFPGFD. That file can be
accessed here.
