SEASONS GREETINGS TO ALL
OUR MEMBERS The 12th AGM of LVRC took place on 28 October at Bridestowe Village Hall. Thank you to everyone who attended and a special thanks to Pamela Gatenby for organising the quiz (won by Jenny Greenway, Pat Thomas and Nikki Sheahan). The awards for 2015/16 were: DRESSAGE CHAMPION: Pam Martin and Bruce BEST CLUB SUPPORTER: Terry Shropland BEST CLUB MEMBER: Lorna Cavalier POINTS COMPETITION: Silver and highest points Sandra Hill Silver awards Sue Hayes Anne Shrubshall Hannah Whiteley Presentations were also made to Amy Scrivener and Christine Early who stood down from the committee during the year and to Pat Thomas who decided not to stand again so that she can spend more time enjoying her new horse Tommy. We are very grateful to Pat for organising our very successful dressage competitions for the last four years. 2015/16 was a very successful year all round for the club, with increased memberships, new activities undertaken and lots of members representing LVRC at area qualifiers with three members progressing to the national championships. I hope that 2016/17 will be as successful for the Club and wish every member all the best for 2017. Jenny (Chair)

REVIEW OF 2016 Our focus over the last year has been to provide a variety of activities for members. The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the visit to Carl Hester’s yard just before the Olympics, where Carl was so generous with his time. We were able to watch a variety of horses at all levels of training, while Carl talked through his training methods and answered questions on all sorts of topics. We were lucky enough to meet Nip Tuck, Uthopia and of course Valegro.
Our core training sessions with John Chubb for flatwork and Angela Coward for mid-week flatwork and pole and grid continued as normal. Show jumping training was with Dawn Vanstone and in the latter part of the year with David Reddan. Sally and Mike Pidsley hosted a supper evening and talk by Judith Hubbard. We introduced hosted hacks which have proved popular and have enabled members to meet each other and enjoy our lovely Dartmoor countryside. Other activities during the year included a talk from Kate Mably, an introduction to dressage to music and various cross country sessions at different venues.

AREA COMPETITIONS The final competitions of the year were the Festival of the Horse (FOH) Challenge (show jumping followed immediately by cross country) and the Intermediate Dressage.
In the FOH Challenge Jane Groom and Ruby flew round the senior 100 into fourth place out of 17. Sally Pidsley then "stormed" it on Storm in the senior 80 and came third out of 37. Well done to both!
Jane and Ruby
Sally and Storm
No placing this time for the intermediate dressage team but an excellent second place on close to 73% for Caroline and Sunny in her novice section (just missing on qualification for the championships) and third place for Jess and Wilberry in the junior novice.

WORKING EQUITATION We have been exploring the possibility of holding a taster session in Working Equitation. In competition, this comprises three phases: Dressage, Ease of Handling and Speed. The ease of handling test consists of a course of obstacles, replicating those that may be found when working in the countryside. For example, a gate, a bridge and a jump. There are also other more technical obstacles such as the parallel slalom, straight slalom and barrels.
Tall Trees Arena has a full set of obstacles and Carol Atkins runs sessions. Don’t be put off by the fact that it is mainly Lusitano horses that you see in videos of Working Equitation; this is an activity that can be fun for any horse and rider combination and is a real test of the horse’s temperament and training and the relationship between horse and rider. If you would be interested in having a go then please contact Anne Shrubshall [email protected]
