Community Foundations• Began in Cleveland in 1914 by an attorney who
envisioned:
• A singe entity that stewarded the charitable wishes of many different citizens for the “perpetual” benefit of the community.
• Today there are over 700 Community Foundations CFs across the nation. There are approximately 80 CFs in Ohio.
Community Foundations• Share common traits:
• A mission to enrich the quality of life of their region
• A focus on building permanent endowment with few restrictions

The Scioto Foundation is a Community Foundation!
• a tax-exempt organization which receives and invests charitable gifts from individuals, families, businesses and other groups and distributes earnings for grants and projects that help meet the continually evolving needs of our area and its residents. The Foundation began in trust form in 1974 and in 1999 added a second corporate form.
