The top-ranked high school seniors on the North Shore will be honored for their academic achievements tonight when the North Shore Chamber of Commerce hosts its 41st annual Honor Scholars Recognition Dinner.

The dinner recognizes nearly 300 students from 28 pub-lic and private high schools on the North Shore, all of them ranked in the top 5 percent of their graduating class.

Following dinner and a talk by keynote speaker Charles Desmond, chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Higher

Education, each scholar will be individually honored and recognized in the presence of their parents, educators and Chamber members.

According to Chamber President Robert Bradford, “The North Shore Chamber of Commerce believes recognizing those who excel helps provide incentive for young people to work to their highest potential and strive to be our leaders of tomorrow. Without achieving excellence in our schools, we cannot expect excellence in our work force. The Chamber

welcomes the opportunity to exhibit support for excellence in education on the North Shore.”

The tradition began in 1968 when the honorees were Beverly High School students, as the chamber served only Beverly. With the growth of the chamber, the dinner now accommodates an audience of 1,000 people and recognizes the top scholars from across the region.

The sold-out recognition dinner will take place at the Sheraton Ferncroft Hotel and Resort in Danvers.
