MUMBAI, Apr 3:A 12-year-old Muslim girl

has emerged topper at a conteston Bhagwad Gita.

Mariyam Asif Siddiqui whostudies in Class 6 in a school atMira Road near Mumbai wonthe contest from among 4,500students who appeared for thecompetition.

She received the first prize inan inter-school competition forexplaining the teachings of theholy book.

"We are delighted. She pre-pared a whole month for the

contest," her father Asif said.The development comes as a

whiff of fresh air at a time whenpoliticians' comments aboutGita created controversy.

Mariyam studies inCosmopolitan High School atMira Road and participated in"Shrimad Bhagwad GitaChampion League" organised byISKCON International Societylast month with an objective tospread teachings of the holy

book.Around 195 schools had par-

ticipated in this competition. Ofthem 105 were private and 90were municipal schools.

Mariyam said she learnedfrom Bhagwad Gita that human-ity is the biggest religion in thisworld.

"It was very interesting to

read Bhagwad Gita as I have gota lot of information about lifefrom it. The holy book hastaught me the golden rules oflife. It says that though there aremany religions but humanity isthe biggest religion among all,"Mariyam said.(PTI)
