A Note from Fr. Matthew Crane, our Pastor
After the Christmas hiatus, Young Couples will again gather at the rectory at St. Joseph’s in Bertha on Satur-day, January 30, 2016, at 7 PM, during which we will discuss what is the best posture and method for re-ceiving Holy Communion. Reception in the hand seems to be a comparatively modern innovation in Church history, except where the Fathers from the first centuries write about it as commonplace. And should we stand or kneel? While the altar rail is gone in most Catholic parishes, there are still those faithful who will kneel before receiving. I realize it may seem an inconsequential detail, but what we do with our bodies matters. How should we receive the body of a God who fashioned the heavens and speaks from the whirlwind? Who walked among us as a friend and appeared in our midst as a tiny infant? Oh, and as usual, I am hoping for someone to volun-teer to help out by bringing a main course for use to eat. Otherwise, we’ll be forced to eat sandwiches made out of Andes Mints and cocoa powder. Since we will need a good headcount, please, please, please try to RSVP by emailing me by January 24. Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Matthew Crane
