STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida

Come Holy Spirit, Come!

What a simple, yet powerful prayer. Through the workings

of the Spirit, we come to encounter Jesus, to know Him,

love Him and serve Him. The Spirit strengthens and

supports this encounter so we may continue to grow in our

relationship with, and love of, Jesus.

In Confirmation, the Holy Spirit completes the grace of

Baptism by a special outpouring of gifts. These gifts

confirm the baptized in union with Christ. Thus, we are

equipped for encounter with Christ and active

participation in the life of the Church. These special gifts

are wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, piety,

fortitude, and fear of the Lord. (Catechism of the Catholic

Church, Second Edition)

Saint Luke, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,

composed two books of THE NEW TESTAMENT, The

Gospel According to Luke and The Acts of the Apostles,

which is sometimes called “The Gospel of the Holy

Spirit”.

In a colloquy between the Holy Spirit and a Follower of

the Spirit, the Spirit says:

“I have never spoken through a voice heard by human

ears, nor have I ever been seen with human eyes. . . . I

testify by a Light unseen by human eyes, by an inspiration

that is unheard and cannot be imagined by men upon

earth. . . . Faith is a gift of God.”1

Father Gary Caster, in his book Inspired: The Powerful

Presence of the Holy Spirit, tells of an invitation he

received to address a Confirmation class during one of the

nights while he was conducting a parish mission in Dallas,

Texas. The class admitted to little interest in being there

that evening. After an invitation from Father Caster to the

class, which was somewhat discomforting to the DRE and

the religion teacher, he instructed the class when they left

that evening to ask their parents, grandparents, even their

pastor, DRE or religion teacher:“What difference does

Jesus make in your life?”

The reason for Father Caster’s question? “If the people

responsible for teaching the faith can’t explain the

difference faith makes, then faith makes no difference.”

Note: Success! Father Caster was invited back to celebrate

the students’ special day.

What difference DOES Jesus make in YOUR life?

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos

How does the Holy Spirit affect my life?

This is a very important question for

everyone, but especially for those who join

the faith and those who falter in it.

God does not disregard His own creation. He

has not abandoned humanity. He acts

through His Spirit to strengthen the life of every Christian

and every human being who is open to His grace.

The Holy Spirit makes me find love with God and the

love of God every day.

The Holy Spirit orders my life from love, giving new

meaning to my desires, my longings, my failures, my

successes, my relationships with others, and my

relationship with God.

The Holy Spirit strengthens my human and spiritual

weakness in prayer, meditation, study, work, and all

daily life.

The Holy Spirit gives life to my life. There are still

many remnants of death in my life that need to be

transformed through the grace of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit teaches me to seek God well, leading

me to a deeper encounter with myself, with others,

and with God.

The Holy Spirit teaches me to purify my heart and let

go of unhealthy desires, worries, useless or

embarrassing occupations, and everyday tasks. The

Holy Spirit makes me understand that the love of God

is not something from the past, and to experience

God’s love anew in the Trinity every day.

As Christians, we

must repeatedly

review our lives

in the light of the

Holy Spirit. We

should not seek

self-sufficiency

by ignoring the

presence of God

in our lives, for

God is the only

One who can

satisfy us with

life, joy and

fulfillment.

deseos, mis fracasos y mis éxitos, mis relaciones

Da vida a mi vida.

ocupaciones inútiles o embarazosas y alguna vez

Remembering our Deceased

Loved Ones

Transitioning remembrance of deceased loved

ones from the Sanctuary Candle to Our

Blessed Mother continues. A candle will burn

perpetually near Our Mother’s statue, Our

Lady of Grace, whose intercession we will

seek.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never

was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left

unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of

virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I

stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word

Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy

hear and answer me.

Amen.

Our warmest good wishes to parishioner Eleanor Miltner

who celebrated her 100th birthday on May 13.

Twenty parish friends joined Eleanor at Sterling Court to

congratulate her, and hear how she, with others, helped

start our Thrift Store and kept it running. Everyone

enjoyed her quick wit, and jovial and graceful manner!

Eleanor was presented with a “Proclamation of Service”

to her parish and family, signed by Father Oscar Martin

Picos. Cake and refreshments were served.
