Rhyming Words Thank you for purchasing from Sensational Homeschooling!
Rhyming words help children learn words more easily. It’s fun and engaging!
They learn about word families and how words are put together. It helps them learn
patterns and rhythms by using simple rhymes. This resource contains loads of fun
ways to introduce children to rhymes!
Included in this resource:
Rhyming Boards, Word Cards and Rhyming Words Record Sheet
Print out rhyming board(s) and word cards on cardstock and laminate. Cut apart the
word cards. Print the rhyming words record sheets.
To use the rhyming board a student lays a picture in the first square on the board
then finds two more pictures that rhyme with the first word and lays them in the
other squares. When finished the student writes the words on their rhyming words
record sheet. The student then clears off the rhyming board and repeats the steps
with another word.
Note: You will need to make copies of the rhyming words record sheet for
each student. Or, you can use sheet protectors or laminate it and use vis-à-
vis wet erase markers. I laminated mine and used plain dry erase markers,
wiped it off with a paper towel and used it again.
Rhyming Word Sort
You will need the rhyming word cards and small containers. Pick out however many
rhyming word card sets you wish to use for the word sort. You will need a container
for each rhyming word set. Tape one card from each rhyming word set onto the
front of each container. Mix up the rest of the word cards and lay them face up in
front of the containers.
The student selects a card and matches it with one of the pictures on the front of
the containers that it rhymes with. They then put the card into that container. The
student does the same thing with the rest of the cards until all the cards are sorted.
Note: I did this with four containers. Then when the student was finished I
had them record each container on the rhyming word record sheet.

Rhyming Word Memory Game
You will need two cards from however many rhyming word card sets you wish to
use. Mix up the cards and turn them over. The student turns over one card and
then another. If the cards rhyme, they can keep the cards. If the cards do not
rhyme, they turn them over and the next student gets to play their turn. The game
is played until all cards are gone.
Rhyming Word Worksheets
There are six worksheets which provide practice to help reinforce the students
learning of rhyming.
