2018REC / UTILITY ATVs
2018 TECHNICAL INNOVATION
start taking
FOR GRANTED.TOUGHSavvy ATV riders choose Hondas for three important reasons. First, they’re reliable. Forty miles back into the big timber and half an hour until sunset is no place to find out some bean counter decided to use a cheaper part deep down in your ATV’s engine. Second, Honda engineering is second to none—smart design delivers benefits in every aspect of your ATV’s performance. And finally, Hondas offer a wide range of technology that help you work (or play) smarter, not harder.
Every Honda ATV you’ll find in this brochure features double-wishbone independent front suspension. Why? So you get precise steering, a smooth ride, and better handling, especially in rugged terrain. We make sure the suspension arms are well protected, too.
INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION
Some people think Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) is all about high performance sport riding. Not at all: IRS is an excellent choice if you’re a rider who spends long days in the saddle, especially in rocky or rough terrain. Since each wheel moves independently over uneven surfaces, you get a smoother ride. Here’s another plus: Because each tire remains in optimal contact with the trail, you also get superior traction at the rear wheels. If you plan to do a lot of exploring, hunting, fishing, or recreational riding in the mountains or really rugged country, you should look closely at our IRS models.
With so many different ATVs in our 2018 model lineup, how do you know which one is right for you? Let’s start with the rear suspension. You have two choices: Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) or Swingarm style. It’s not a matter of one being better, but one will probably suit your needs a little more than the other, depending on the terrain where you ride and how you use your ATV. Which one is right for you? Glad you asked!
INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION
CHOOSING THE RIGHT SUSPENSION
Swingarm suspensions feature a solid, one-piece axle or locked rear-axle design. It’s proven technology seen on thousands of hard-working ATVs and larger equipment like farm tractors. And don’t think it’s just old technology—swingarm suspensions have some genuine advantages. If you plan to do much towing with your ATV, swingarm models are an excellent choice: since the hitch bolts directly to the axle housing, there’s less body squat with a heavy trailer. The design is simple and rugged. Swingarm models also minimize body roll when traversing sidehills, a characteristic many riders appreciate. Riders looking for hard-working ATVs often choose swingarm models.
SWINGARM REAR SUSPENSION
WORK HARD, WORK SMART.Look at any piece of worksite machinery—a bulldozer, a tractor, even a full-sized pickup truck—and you’ll see that the engine sits in the chassis with the crankshaft front-to-back. Why? It’s all about ruggedness and efficiency. That longitudinal layout eliminates any power losses from unnecessary right-angle driveline changes, and that eliminates any power losses through mechanical inefficiency. That’s smart. That’s the layout every Honda ATV in this brochure uses. And that’s the reason why your Honda ATV engine can get more power to the ground than some bigger, heavier, less-efficient ATVs. Bigger may not always be better, but smarter and more efficient is.
Conventional ATV manual transmissions have plenty of advantages, but shifting while wearing heavy, mud- or snow-covered work boots or overshoes can be a hassle. That’s why we developed our Electric Shift ProgramTM (ESP®). It lets you upshift and downshift with a pair of handlebar-mounted buttons. You get the rugged construction of a conventional ATV transmission along with genuine compression braking for better control when riding in hilly terrain.
ELECTRIC SHIFT PROGRAM (ESP)
Nothing can match a traditional ATV semi-automatic transmission in terms of simplicity and cost. Riders who use their ATVs day in and day out at the ranch or the jobsite usually choose this transmission design. Plus, if a variety of workers use one ATV, it’s a system many already understand. No clutch lever means no stalling, while rugged steel gears provide durability, simplicity, and the control that comes with choosing a specific gear.
MANUAL
Honda’s five-speed Automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) is more than just convenient. It delivers smooth, seamless power that can be an advantage in sloppy, technical conditions. It also offers a manual electric-shift mode, along with strong internals, fast shifts, excellent control, and true compression braking. And unlike some other designs, there are no belts to break, burn up, or slip when wet.
AUTOMATIC DCT
CHOOSING YOUR TRANSMISSION
SUPERIOR ENGINEERING 2018
COMPROMISE.NEVERWe only know one way to build an ATV: the right way. But that doesn’t mean we don’t give you a choice. Some jobs are bigger than others. So are some budgets. And that’s why our ATV lineup offers so many options. So after you’ve picked your suspension type, it’s time to choose your transmission style, and then narrow in on engine size and overall ATV use. One thing’s for sure, though. When you choose a Honda, you know you’re getting the best in the long run—no compromises involved.
Every Honda Rancher,® Foreman® Rubicon and Rincon® uses electronic fuel injection. Why? It makes your ATV easier to start when cold, helps improve engine performance, and automatically compensates for temperature or—more important—altitude changes.
ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION
2018 FOURTRAX RANCHER
AMERICA’SGO-TO ATV.For decades now, Honda’s line of FourTrax® Rancher ATVs has been where the search for the perfect ATV starts and ends. And it’s easy to see why so many thousands of Rancher owners know they’ve made the right choice. With a variety of models and options, it’s easy to get the features you want. Plus, the Rancher just hits that sweet spot in terms of size and performance. Every 2018 Rancher uses the same proven Honda engine, a 420cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder design engineered for the kind of wide, low-revving power an ATV rider wants. Whether it’s sunup-to-sundown exploring, saving labor on the jobsite, or making the farm run smoothly, nothing works like a Rancher.
RANCHER 4X4 ES
RANCHER 4X4 DCT EPS
Electric Power Steering (EPS) is a huge benefit on just about any ATV, and you can get it on your new Rancher. It’s especially beneficial when operating your ATV in ruts, rocky terrain or on long sidehills. And Honda’s design means there are no belts to break or pumps to fail.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING
It’s one of those details you don’t notice at first, but when you live with your ATV day after day, year after year the details make the difference. All our ATVs in this brochure feature a reverse lever that’s intuitive and easy to use, even in cold weather or when wearing heavy gloves. Simple, smart, and pure Honda.
USER-FRIENDLY REVERSE LEVER
Two-wheel drive? Four-wheel drive? With Honda’s TraxLok,® you decide. TraxLok makes choosing either 2WD or 4WD simple. 2WD gives you lighter steering, while 4WD maximizes available traction in conditions when you need it. All it takes is moving a rugged, conveniently mounted lever that offers positive engagement.
TRAXLOK
Smart and strong, that’s what this Rancher is all about. Combining a rugged, tow-friendly swingarm suspension with the cutting-edge Honda Automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission, the Rancher 4X4 Automatic DCT with Electric Power Steering is the best of both worlds for a lot of riders out there.

AUTOMATIC DCT TRANSMISSION
Independent rear suspension (IRS) does more than just give your Rancher a smooth ride over rough terrain. It can help your tires stay in better contact with the surface, and that means improved grip and stability.
INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION
Lots of ATVs offer automatic transmissions, but only Honda gives you our automatic DCT transmission. As strong and rugged as a manual, it shifts by itself, or gives you total control to choose an exact gear.

TOUGH JOB?LET’S GET
When you have people counting on you, or your paycheck riding on the line, that’s when you really start to appreciate a Honda FourTrax Foreman 4x4. This ATV is all about getting the job done, no complaints and no excuses. At the heart of the matter: a proven fuel-injected 500-class engine offers excellent power and fuel efficiency. Tough bodywork and rugged tubular-steel racks front and rear can handle the challenges of the jobsite or farm too, day in and day out, year after year.
FOREMAN 4X4
FOREMAN 4X4 ES EPS
Rocky trail? Uneven terrain? Slick mud? Maybe even ice where you need to go? That’s when you need to get positive power to both front wheels. Here’s the solution— the Foreman’s locking front differential. Just flip this handlebar switch to maximize available front-end traction.
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL LOCK
The Foreman 4x4’s solid-rear-axle design provides superior towing and hauling performance. Plus, its long suspension stroke and plush seat let you tackle your favorite trail or the toughest chores.
SWINGARM REAR SUSPENSION
Compact and lighter-weight, the Foreman’s overhead-valve, semi-dry-sump design is not only shorter from top to bottom, but also enhances handling by lowering the engine’s center of gravity and increasing ground clearance.
SEMI-DRY-SUMP ENGINE
While every Foreman model uses the same powerful, fuel injected 500-class engine, the Foreman 4x4 ES EPS sweetens the deal by adding our exclusive electric shifting along with Electric Power Steering—both great choices for long days working at tough jobs.

ATV riders may need to tackle some serious rock crawling, pull some heavy loads, or cruise over smooth trails, all in the same day. No problem with a Rubicon DCT, thanks to the drive/low range in the gearbox. It’s easy to choose the perfect gear for the task.
DUAL-RANGE DRIVE/LOW SHIFTER
Here’s an example of what Honda does best: smart design. The Rubicon’s inboard rear brake disc and caliper are tucked up high and out of harm’s way. Other benefits: the design reduces unsprung weight and offers superior protection from water, sticks, and rocks.

The Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4 is a premium ATV that places a premium on rider comfort—all-day comfort. With a tough, proven 500-class engine, you can choose from two transmission options: a rugged conventional-type ATV gearbox that makes the Rubicon the only manual-shift ATV with Independent Rear Suspension on the market, or our revolutionary Automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) that’s fast-shifting and features strong steel-gear internals. DCT also gives you the option of precise, no-clutch manual shifts just by pushing a button.

2018 FOURTRAX RINCON | RECON
You’re looking at the biggest ATV in our 2018 lineup—the Honda Rincon—as well as the smallest: the Honda Recon.® Two vehicles which differ greatly in size, but which share a common goal: to give you an ATV you can count on, and one that represents the very best in the class. In combination with the rest of our ATV lineup, nobody else gives you the wide range of all-terrain vehicles you’ll find from Honda.
BIGGER. SMALLER.BETTER.
The Rincon’s proven, automotive-style three-speed automatic transmission features a heavy-duty torque converter just like a full-sized truck.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSON (Rincon)
The Rincon uses a unique twin-plug cylinder-head design. Why? Two spark plugs that fire together helps ensure clean, fast, thorough combustion. It’s a win-win situation: The engine runs cleaner, with greater fuel-efficiency and range.
DUAL-PLUG HEAD (Rincon)
The Recon offers uniquely designed floorboards that allow the rider’s feet to grip the footrests while at the same time keeping away mud and debris.

Size matters, and the Honda Recon is the right size for a lot of jobs. Because it’s so compact, it can maneuver through tighter trails that would stop a bigger unit. Its specially designed 250cc class engine is engineered for plenty of low-rpm torque and power. It’s even available in two different models: as a conventional foot-shift or with Honda’s Electric Shift Program (ESP).
FOURTRAX RECON
Sometimes only the biggest will do. And when it comes to Honda ATVs, you’ve found it. The Rincon uses our biggest ATV engine, a 675cc liquid-cooled single featuring a twin-plug cylinder head. Premium long-travel suspension, rugged bodywork, strong steel racks front and rear—the Rincon is truly our flagship model.

BE A RESPONSIBLE RIDER Remember, ATVs can be hazardous to operate. Always wear a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing, and never ride on paved surfaces or public roads. Never carry passengers, never engage in stunt riding, and remember that riding doesn’t mix with drugs or alcohol. Avoid excessive speeds, and be particularly careful on difficult terrain. Honda FourTrax models shown are recommended for riders 16 years of age and older. Honda recommends that all ATV riders take a training course and read their owner’s manual thoroughly. New ATV purchasers should take advantage of free ASI training and completion incentives. For safety and training information, see your Honda Dealer or call the ASI at 1-800-887-2887. Whenever you ride off-road, make sure you follow the “TREAD LIGHTLY” guidelines, and always stay on established trails in approved riding areas. Keep your riding areas clean, use common sense and respect the rights of others. Operating your ATV with a modified engine, emission-control system or noise-control system may be illegal. Always obtain written permission before riding on private lands, and obey all the laws and regulations governing your riding areas.
