Reader's cornerH-ow to wy~te ~ f~~ytj stOytjEleanor Smallwood and Olivia --~Hungerford (right) from BritishTutors tell us how to write a fairystory.

Cinderella had to deal with herwicked stepmother, and Red RidingHood had to tussle with the wolf. How will your hero save the day?

Before you start writing, you need to imagine your

good and bad characters. Is your hero a handsome

prince or the daughter of a poor farmer living inthe woods? Who is the evil person in the story,a jealous queen or a thief intent on kidnappingyour heroine?

Next, think of where your storytakes place. It could be in acottage or a huge castle or evenon a desert island!

Finally decide on your story: what willthe hero or heroine want, how will the evilcharacter stop them from getting this, what willthe hero have to do now and what will we alllearn by the end of the adventure?

Now you have all the elements to make agreat fairy story, all you need to do is put themtogether using the steps below:

Word boxglistening, gruesome, frightful, fearsome, elegant, noble, dreadful, dashing, gallant, magnificent, vivid

~~,

BeginningIntroduce your heroes. Who are they, what dothey look like, where do they liveand what do they want?

MiddleWho are the evil characters.

What are they like andwhat do they do to theheroes? How do yourheroes react? Can theheroes still get what they

want? What other charactersare in the story: sisters, parents, princesses? How do they helpyour hero?

EndWhat happens to the evilcharacter? Does the herosucceed? How does the storyend? Does the hero move intoa huge palace or suddenlyget rich? Do your heroes livehappily ever after?
