$10 fee per GM = $140 in pot; breakdown: $100 awarded to First Place $30 to Second Place $10 to Third Place
Scoring System Change A new scoring system was put in place for 2008. Instead of adding up the
total categories won to name the victor, the new rule allows for the team which wins the most categories is awarded a “W” and be “1-0”.
Other New Rules Team name must include a geographical city, region, or place All trades must be passed by newly appointed “Trade Commissioner” All teams must compile a minimum of 25 innings pitched per week
If team does not obey, team will serve a two-week probation period with no trades/acquisitions & will lose their 5th round draft pick the following year
RBA Expands
The RBA welcomed two new GM’s at the start 2008, making the league 14 teams deep (considered an above average fantasy league). Erik Tate’s Fairhaven Hammers joined the West Division while Bryan Cook’s Lauderdale Lake Monsters did battle in the East Division. Both GM’s proved to be terrific additions to RBA. Will the RBA expand again in 2009?
THE TRADE COMMISSIONER
The RBA welcomed Tom Mendillo aka the “Trade Master” to the league back in March of 2008. Coach Tom’s role was to objectively review and therefore decided if the trade should be passed or be vetoed. Below is his first post in the RBA. Has he lived up to these promises?
March 4, 2008
I, Coach Tom, being of sound mind and dazzling baseball expertise solemnly swear to be a fair and equitable “Trade Commissioner” ( I prefer Trade Guru OR Trade Master) for the 2008 Rockledge Baseball Association. Now that my oath is out of the way, let me say:
I am sure that you may experience an instance or two where you may disagree with the findings of my office. However, I would certainly hope that you take a moment, pause for some reflection, and realize that my immeasurable knowledge of the game of baseball supersedes any weak or lame complaint you novices may have regarding my decision.
My findings for each transaction will be accompanied with an explanation as to why the said deal was accepted or voided. There will also be times when I ask for the opinions of non-involved GMs that have nothing to gain by the results of the trade being approved or not. I cannot say with complete candor that I will use these opinions but I do want some of you to feel important.
I must admit that I am quite excited to be appointed this most prestigious of positions and I look forward to enlightening each and every one of you with my astute and prudent judgments. You can rest assure that I will rule the Trade Segment of the RBA with King Solomon like wisdom and Mother Teresa like compassion.
Yours Truly, The Trade Commish
THE TRADE COMMISSIONER (2)
Below is one of many contributions that the Trade Commish brought to the table early on in the year…
THE DRAFT: March 9th, 8:45pm
Draft Order (based on 2007 final standings):

BJ Upton, selected by Erik Tate of the Fairhaven Hammers and eventually traded to the Meaflutes, was the number one pick in the 2008 RBA draft and a major disappointment in 2008.

Or should it be April 2nd, 2002? Either way, the “Cook to be Featured in Sporting News” post was one of the funniest things that happened in the RBA this year…
