INTRODUCTION
Pakistan Wire Industries Pvt. Ltd (PWI) is a domestic pioneering enterprise specializing in drawing high carbon steel wire since 1972. The plant is located in Sind Industrial Textile Estate (S.I.T.E), Karachi, Pakistan on an area of 1.1 acres. Another plant is in the planning phase in S.I.T.E Nooriabad on an area of 5 acres.
With 40 years of experience in production and management, the company has developed a system of excellent craft, advanced technology and complete testing mechanism. New equipment, crafts and technology are constantly employed to develop new products. The products are widely catering to the needs of metallurgy, mining, oil, post, fiber optics, telecommunications, elevator & crane machinery, transportation, coal, forestry, ocean fishery and electricity market segments. The company pays high attention to the quality of products. PWI is an ISO 9000:2008 certified company since 2006. The products are at par with any given International standard; currently use ISO 2408, ISO 3154, EN-10264 & ISO 4344
PWI, since 2013, is equipped with a modern wire rope manufacturing plant using state of the art wire drawing, stranding and closing technology to meet the diversified requirements of quality conscious customers. Thecompany has the capacity of 10,000 Metric ton of wire and 1500 Metric ton of wire ropes/ stranded wire annually.
PRODUCTION FACILITIES
Wires ropes having S/Z Ordinary/Lang Cross/Parallel Lay are precision engineered and manufactured to JIS G3525, EN -10624-2 & JIS G 7301 or any other International Standard under strict supervision on every phase of production. This ensures optimum strength, safety, and reliability of wire rope products. The Filler, Seale & Warrington ropes are currently produced in construction of 6x7(FC), 6x12(FC), 6x19/Seale (FC/IWS/IWRC) and 8x19/Seale (FC/IWS/IWRC) with breaking load classification of Grade A (1620 N/mm2 -165 Kgf/mm2) and Grade B (1770 N/mm2-180 Kgf/mm2).
PATENTING
Patenting is carried out continuously with Austenitizing in tubes in a Japanese designed furnace followed by rapid cooling in a molten bath.
The steel ropes and springs are produced from cold drawing top quality hot rolled high carbon imported wire rods of 0.40 – 0.90% Carbon, which are lead & air patented to impart fine pearlitic uniform structure providing high strength and ductility. The 32 wire furnace line can produce up to 8000 metric ton of patented wire annually with diameter ranging from 0.9mm to 4.75mm.
PICKLING
The patented rods are now cleaned in the pickling section by dipping them in an acid bath and surface treated chemically for smooth drawing operations.
DRY DRAWING
Tandem type high speed wire drawing machines imported from Europe are used that can intake a size up to 16mm (0.62 inches) and produce a final size of 0.9mm (0.035 inches). High wire quality is ensured due to no twisting and reverse bending of wire during production.
GALVANIZING
Gas fired galvanizing line, based on a German design, uses hot dip zinc coating method on the material as per ASTM A-475, GOST 9850 and BSS 443 standards in order to improve the wire corrosion resistance.
FINE WET DRAWING
Multiple High speed slip type wet drawing KOCH branded machines are used to produce wire size of 0.28 mm (0.01 inches) using imported lubricant to provide excellent surface finish along with tight tolerances.
REWINDING
The facility is equipped with high speed fully automatic bobbin re-winders for smooth production flow.
STRANDING The Plant is Equipped with multiple stranding machines in 1+6, 1+9 & 1+12 configuration, imported from Europe and China with a capability of stranding 0.15 mm (.006 inches) to 3.3 mm (0.13 inches) wire size and pitch range of 13 mm to 178 mm.
CLOSING
Two closers in 1+8 and 1+6 configurations are used to close ropes.
TESTING/DIE MAKING
The plant is equipped with complete testing facilities of chemical analysis, micro structural studies and destructive physical testing. The reverse bend, wrapping, torsion and tensile testing machines are in-house and carry out these tests with extreme precision. State of the art in-house die making setup is used to produce precise and flawless Tungsten Carbide & Diamond Dies for accuracy and smooth wire surface.
