Subject Pronouns

The subject of a sentence is the person or thing which performs the action.

Subject pronouns replace this person or thing.

•You must understand subject pronouns before you begin conjugating verbs, as the forms of verbs change for each one.

• 2nd You = TU

• 3rd HE / SHE = IL / ELLE

•I > JE OR j’ ( IF THE VERB START WITH A VOWEL OR AN H): j’AI JE SUIS

•YOU> TU ( WITH TU, THE VERB ALWAYS TAKE AN ‘s’ AT THE END AND IT IS ALWAYS SILeNT) TU ES, TU AS

•HE> IL ( IN FRENCH EVERY OBJECT AS A GENDER, MASCULIN OR FEMININ, SO YOU CAN REPLACE “UN HOTEL”BY “IL” BECAUSE HOTEL IS MASCULIN

•SHE> ELLE ( YOU CAN REPLACE “ UNE BANQUE “ BY “ELLE” BECAUSE BANK IS FEMININ

IT> IN FRENCHG, WE DON’T HAVE THE SUBJECT PRONOUN “IT”, BU WE USE “IL” AND “ELLE” DEPENDING ON THE GENDER OF THE WORD

ON •On is the indefinite pronoun. Its English equivalents can be :

YOU > VOUS•Vous is use for the formal and the polite way , and also to talk about a group of people•With ‘vous” the verb always finish with “ez”•It’s easy

They / ils elles•We have two way to say they in french•If it is a group of male or masculin object, we use ‘Ils’•If it is a group of female or feminin object, we use ‘elles’•Now if you have one male and 200 females•We say “ils”•Sorry!!!!
