Hello from Douglas Park Community Association!
Through the first several months of 2016, the Douglas Park Community Association are happy to see the results of our on-going strong partnership with the Vancouver Parks Board and enable Douglas Park Community Cen-tre to make progress on key investment areas.
The results can be seen in programming, with increases to programs for older adults, seniors, and youth services. We continue to support families, with additional after school care added at Emily Carr Elementary, the free BC Family Day event as well as other family friendly events and new classes for children and preschoolers. The pottery studio continues to try out new programs and will have it’s first Pottery Club sale on April 24th.
Please share any feedback on programs and events, we are always looking for new class ideas and ways to improve to best meet the needs of the community.
Another focus for 2016 and 2017, is to update the facilities and the play-ground. Work has already begun with painting of the trim and you can expect more facility updates coming over the next 12 months. Join us for family fun at the Playground Fundraiser Carnival on Sunday March 13th. This event will kick-off a series of ongoing fundraising events throughout 2016 to engage the community, raise awareness, and partner with local stakeholders. The DPCA overall fundraising goal is $300,000. These funds will ensure the new playground is as diverse, interesting and challenging as the current playground. The DPCA would like to thank the Langara Col-lege Recreation Diploma students for planning and support to make the carnival event possible. If you wish to get involved or discuss sponsorship opportunities, please contact the centre.
On Saturday June 11, we will be hosting our annual Douglas Park Com-munity Day celebration. The family free event will be held outdoors and features main stage entertainment by our program instructors, class demonstrations, inflatables & games, youth fundraising concession and community groups. Bring your family and friends.
Thank you to all the volunteers, board members and staff who continue to make Douglas Park Community Centre the heart of such a great neigh-bourhood.
Sincerely,
Saskia BattersbyDPCA President

The Douglas Park playground is part of the city’s playground renewal program for 2015-16.
This creates an opportunity for the community to fundraise and provide input on the design of a new playground. In order to ensure the new
playground is as diverse and fun as the current program the association will be contributing funds and we have set a fundraising goal for the
playground committee of $300,000.

When we are able to learn healthy communication skills our ability to be a leader for others is improved. Often to be a strong leader we need to be able to articulate what others are thinking and feeling. This introductory program to leadership will work on language to use when talking with others, body posture, and how to help guide the conversation.
