Why VLF Cabel Testing?
► Space charges that can occur under elevated DC voltages. Water trees can result in localized stress enhancements.
► Reapplication of normal AC power: Water tree sites can ultimately lead to an electrical tree or trees.

► Once an electrical tree has been initiated, complete cable failure is normally imminent and inevitable.
► A single water tree which converts to an electrical tree is causing a cable to fail!
Why VLF Cabel Testing?
► D.C. Testing of XLPE will only find gross defects.
► Diagnostic testing like Tan Delta or Partial Discharge is not possible with D.C.

The HVA measures the real time output wave and digitize the
information (Digital Signal Processor). Therefore it is possible to
measure not only the RMS leakage current but also the Capacitive
current (capacitance is displayed) AND the resistive current
(Megohm reading).
