Post Apocalyptic film Lighting

The road is a perfect example of setting a good mood in the opening scene. The main reason this is mad possible is because of the lighting. The lighting in this opening scene is very dark and dull, with a very grey colour scale. This helps to create the lonely, helpless feel that this film is based on.

This opening title sequence fits the same pattern as the road seen previously. The jolty images and the dull greyscale colour scheme helps to create the uneasy feel that would be felt in a zombie apocalypse, (probably) . Hardly any vibrant colours are used as it would not fit the genre, and therefore the title sequence would not feel serious enough.

Timings for opening, 00:00-04:18, lighting on this opening is also very dark. The main colour is blue, which could conotate the feeling of loneliness. When the second half of the opening is displayed they colour appears to be a very grey scale and dull appearance with no bright colours that stand out. This could suggest that nothing is better, post apocalypse. And everyone is just as helpless as the other.

The pattern that arises from MOST post apocalyptic film openings is that the lighting is very dark and the colour scheme is very dull. This helps create the sad emotionless feelings of the scenes and helps the audience to connect with the characters. The reason for this lighting is usually due to the post apocalyptic films genre in general being based on sad events. This can be achieved easily by using dark and dull light to represent what events have occurred and how people feel now.

The Book of Eli for example could almost be black and white.
