Acts12:1-5(ESV)AboutthattimeHerodthekinglaidviolenthandsonsomewhobelongedtothechurch.2HekilledJamesthebrotherofJohnwiththesword,3andwhenhesawthatitpleasedtheJews,heproceededtoarrestPeteralso.ThiswasduringthedaysofUnleavenedBread.4Andwhenhehadseizedhim,heputhiminprison,deliveringhimovertofoursquadsofsoldierstoguardhim,intendingafterthePassovertobringhimouttothepeople.5SoPeterwaskeptinprison,butearnestprayerforhimwasmadetoGodbythechurch.Luke23:8-9(ESV) 8WhenHerodsawJesus,hewasveryglad, forhehadlongdesiredtoseehim,becausehehadheardabouthim,andhewashopingtoseesomesigndonebyhim.9Sohequestionedhimatsomelength,buthemadenoanswer.

THE LEADERSHIP ETHIC OF THE KINGDOM IS SERVANTHOOD Acts12:6(ESV)NowwhenHerodwasabouttobringhimout,onthatverynight,Peterwassleepingbetweentwosoldiers,boundwithtwochains,andsentriesbeforethedoorwereguardingtheprison.FAITH IS AN ACTION, NOT A FEELING • GENUINE FAITH IS TRUSTING GOD ENOUGH TO DO WHAT HE SAYS

Acts12:7-19(ESV)7Andbehold,anangeloftheLordstoodnexttohim,andalightshoneinthecell.HestruckPeteronthesideandwokehim,saying,“Getupquickly.”Andthechainsfelloffhishands.8Andtheangelsaidtohim,“Dressyourselfandputonyoursandals.”Andhedidso.Andhesaidtohim,“Wrapyourcloakaroundyouandfollowme.”9Andhewentoutandfollowedhim.Hedidnotknowthatwhatwasbeingdonebytheangelwasreal,butthoughthewasseeingavision.10Whentheyhadpassedthefirstandthesecondguard,theycametotheirongateleadingintothecity.Itopenedforthemofitsownaccord,andtheywentoutandwentalongonestreet,andimmediatelytheangellefthim.11WhenPetercametohimself,hesaid,“NowIamsurethattheLordhassenthisangelandrescuedmefromthehandofHerodandfromallthattheJewishpeoplewereexpecting.”12Whenherealizedthis,hewenttothehouseofMary,themotherofJohnwhoseothernamewasMark,wheremanyweregatheredtogetherandwerepraying.13Andwhenheknockedatthedoorofthegateway,aservantgirlnamedRhodacametoanswer.14RecognizingPeter’svoice,inherjoyshedidnotopen

thegatebutraninandreportedthatPeterwasstandingatthegate.15Theysaidtoher,“Youareoutofyourmind.”Butshekeptinsistingthatitwasso,andtheykeptsaying,“Itishisangel!”16ButPetercontinuedknocking,andwhentheyopened,theysawhimandwereamazed.17Butmotioningtothemwithhishandtobesilent,hedescribedtothemhowtheLordhadbroughthimoutoftheprison.Andhesaid,“TellthesethingstoJamesandtothebrothers.”Thenhedepartedandwenttoanotherplace.18Nowwhendaycame,therewasnolittledisturbanceamongthesoldiersoverwhathadbecomeofPeter.19AndafterHerodsearchedforhimanddidnotfindhim,heexaminedthesentriesandorderedthattheyshouldbeputtodeath.ThenhewentdownfromJudeatoCaesareaandspenttimethere.

WELL I PRAY

• OUR JOB IS TO ASK; GOD’S JOB IS TO DO WHAT IS BEST Acts12:20-24(ESV)20NowHerodwasangrywiththepeopleofTyreandSidon,andtheycametohimwithoneaccord,andhavingpersuadedBlastus,theking’schamberlain,theyaskedforpeace,becausetheircountrydependedontheking’scountryforfood.21OnanappointeddayHerodputonhisroyalrobes,tookhisseatuponthethrone,anddeliveredanorationtothem.22Andthepeoplewereshouting,“Thevoiceofagod,andnotofaman!”23ImmediatelyanangeloftheLordstruckhimdown,becausehedidnotgiveGodtheglory,andhewaseatenbywormsandbreathedhislast.24ButthewordofGodincreasedandmultiplied.25AndBarnabasandSaulreturnedfromJerusalemwhentheyhadcompletedtheirservice,bringingwiththemJohn,whoseothernamewasMark.
