Price Inflation Model for SAP HANA Retail Solution
HP Reference: Kingfisher plc
Challenges / Objectives Approach Results• Kingfisher plc, based in London, is the
third-largest home improvement retailer world.
• Kingfisher had identified the following issues in terms of missing business information:• No visibility to sales and margins across
operating segments and geographies
• No measurement of inflation on sales and cost prices
• Inability to tie cost price inflation with supplier product and transportation costs
• Inability to understand impact of external factors like weather and demographic information to sales and margins
• This information was simply not available in real-tim due to technological limitations.
• Kingfisher, SAP and HP jointly invested in creating a solution based on the new real-time business platform SAP HANA.
• The solution for Kingfisher and the Retail market …• enables clear visibility of inflationary
effects historically on sales and margin
• provides unique input to merchandise range planning processes
• provides buyers a tool to monitor, track and negotiate pricing for commodities with key suppliers based on cost price inflation
• co-relates impact of external factors like weather and demographic information to sales and gross margins
• Kingfisher is now able to obtain real-time information …• on sales and cost price inflation by
operating company codes, product hierarchy and supplier
• on the net inflation cost impact
• The system carries out Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) match rate for like-for-like products
• It is the creates foundation level KPIs like sales, cost of goods sold and gross margins
• Overall, the solution enables commercial retail executives to under-stand historical trends and improve forecasting of revenue and margin based on more accurate ‘modeled’ analysis - on a daily basis!
