R&D project possibilities
M. Oinonen, PHENIX Forward Upgrade meeting, Prague, 20-21 Oct 2006
Internal memo circulated among the involved persons of HIP DL.
• based on Edward Kistenev’s visit in Helsinki (Aug-06)
Proposal:
• separate prototyping & mass production projects• prototyping as R&D efforts, mass production as “service
provider”
R&D project considered important since use of existing resources crucial
green light for prototyping in DL
R&D project possibilities
M. Oinonen, PHENIX Forward Upgrade meeting, Prague, 20-21 Oct 2006
Plan:
• JYFL provides mechanical workshop for tools• MSc Henri Seppänen conducts the prototyping in Helsinki
• PHENIX provides some manpower for assembly in Helsinki?
Crucial:
• H.S. funded by HIP, Univ. of Helsinki and JYFL (to be confirmed)• H.S. is expected to finish his PhD on ultrasonic bond quality
during 2007• no costs for equipment & premises for prototyping phase
prototyping feasible from the point of view of DL
Prospects for mass production
M. Oinonen, PHENIX Forward Upgrade meeting, Prague, 20-21 Oct 2006
Prototyping should be successful
• decision upon the mass production relies on prototyping
Expectation: mass production as service provider, not an official member of the collaboration
• co-operation can also take place between an institute and “a service provider”…
to be seen…
