    PSYCHO-ANALYTICAL

THEORY OF PERSONALITYAccording to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytical theory ofpersonality, personality is composed of three element.

These three element of personality known as id, the egoand the superego work together to create complexhuman behavior.

The Id The Id is the foundation of unconscious behavior and is

    base of libido drives.

It has animalistic instincts of aggression, power anddomination.

It demands immediate pleasure at whatever cost.

    The Ego

The ego is the component of personality that is responsible for dealing with reality.

According to Freud, it develops from the Id.

It ensure that the impulse of the Id can be expressed in a manner acceptable in the realworld.

It functions in both the conscious and unconscious mind.

    The super ego

The super ego higher level force to restrain the id and is described as the conscience ofa person.

It represents the norms of the individual, his family and society and is an ethical constrainton the behavior.

A person may not be aware of working of super ego because conscience is developed bycultural value.

Individuals progress at different rates from the total immaturity of

early childhood (being passive, dependent, shallow, limited activity) to

maturity (active, independent, deeper thoughts, more varied interests).

Most organizations have bureaucratic or pyramidal values that foster

    immaturity in workers.

In many cases, when people join the workforce, they are kept from

maturing by the management practices utilized in their organizations.

At various stages a personnel can react in their degree of development

which is shown in the next slide.
