The first thing that greets you isFords new corporate nose thinkAston Martin for the people.
But theres more to the Focusthan just some added bling, asthe car now packs some impres-sive safety and convenience kit,tweaked ride and handling char-acteristics plus engines that are
more than worthy of Fords hype.As the wagon of the family you
can expect the Focus Estate toswallow pretty much anythingyou throw at it.
Thecars low loading lip, easy opentailgate and flat load bay all conspireto make life exceptionally easy whenshiftinglargeor heavyitems.
This versatile theme continuesinside the cabin, with both frontand rear occupants offered good
levels of space.The cars facelift status has re-
sulted in a raft of detailed tweaksto enhance the experience forkeendrivers andboost refinementfor everyone else in the cabin.
From suspension and steeringchanges to soundproofing tweaks,Ford has taken a fine tooth combto the Focus in a bid to bring itcloser to premium class cars cost-ing considerably more.
And then theres the Blue Ovalscontinued development of its en-
gine range. New for the Focus is a1.5-litre diesel to complement theexisting petrol equivalent, while a1.0-litre petrol unit has also beenintroduced. Load-luggers will nodoubt appreciate the diesels 120horsepower, 98g/km CO2 ratingand the prospect of 70-odd mpg.That its smooth, refined and ca-pable is more than a bonus.
If the current crop of compactSUVs and people carriers leave
youcold or youneed a convention-al load-lugger, the Focus Estate ishard to ignore. It cant match thelatter for overall cabin versatility,but as compromises go the Focuswagon is an affordable and well-equipped alternative.
