Drilling stainless steel Marutex®
Marutex® is a stainless steel drilling screw that is made of a special stainless steel. After heat treatment, the steel achieves a hardness fully comparable with hardened carbon steel. The Marutex® screw’s unique drilling properties, in combination with very high corrosion resistance, puts this screw in a class of its own. Marutex® has obtained a technical approval within the EU for use up to and including corrosivity class C4. Marutex® has been estimated having a service life of 50 years.

U-nite Fasteners Technology AB now has more than 0 years’ experience of paint-ing construction and industrial screws. During this time we have continually devel-oped our technology, painting both with wet paint and powder.
Wet paintOur wet painting facility has the capacity to paint 00,000 screws per shift. After pre-treatment, the screw is painted with two-component polyurethane paint.
Polyurethane paint is generally char-acterised by very good outdoor resis-tance and high resistance to mechanical influences. The paint also offers good colour resistance, without chalking or fading, which makes it particularly suit-able for acidic environments. The paint we use has also been further adapted to cope with the very tough treatment to which it will be subjected. The colour system is evaluated regularly and has proven to satisfy extremely stringent re-quirements.
Powder paintWe have used powder paint, primarily on construction screws, since 1991. In close collaboration with our powder sup-plier, who is a leader in the field in Eu-
rope, we have developed a polyester powder that gives a very hard-wearing and even surface layer. Powder paint is free of solvents, which we consider to be a major advantage, benefiting both the
working and the external environment. Our powder facility has the capacity to paint 300,000 fasteners per shift.
ColoursConstruction and industrial screws can, in most cases, be supplied in any colour in accordance with NCS, RAL or ac-cording to colour tests. Construction metal screws are stocked in around 15 standard colours. We also stock paint in
all the Scandinavian sheet profilers’ co-lours, which can be delivered at short notice thanks to a very flexible manufac-turing process.Clasp and tin nails are stocked in some ten colours.Blind rivets, some dimensions are stocked in five colours.
Verification/testingIn order to ensure high, even quality in our paint systems, we take regular samples from our production process. Samples are taken from each con-signment to check the resistance of the paint to external influences/me-chanical wear and for colour check-ing. Different types of corrosion test are performed regularly to check col-our systems and surface treatment. Accelerated corrosion tests, salt spray, humidity cabinet and SCAB tests are conducted in co-operation with our paint suppliers, as well as by inde-pendent testing institutes. We also conduct field tests ourselves. Along-side our paint suppliers, we are con-tinually developing our paint systems, although no changes are implement-ed without extremely comprehensive testing.

Dimensioning
Dimensioning valuesConditionsAll data are calculated in accordance with
• Boverket’s (National Swedish Board of Building, Planning and Housing) design regulations BKR 99
• Thin sheet standard StBK-N5
The fastener must never be the weakest link in a joint when subjected to shearing loads.
For safety reasons, power-absorbing joints must always have at least fas-teners.
The dimensioning values are specified in kN/fastener and apply to safety class 1.
For safety classes and 3, all the specified values are divided by 1.1 and 1. respectively.

where d is the diameter of the fastener.
The length of the joint is restricted to a maximum of 15 d between the outer-most fasteners in the direction of the force, see StBK-N5 33:133.
Force analysis
In principle, a joint can be loaded with both extraction and shearing forces, see figure.
t is the thickness of the sheet nearest the head of the fastener.t1 is the thickness of the lower sheet.
If the joint is reversed, i.e. the fastener’s head comes up against the thickest sheet t1, adjust in all tables t = t1. The fol-lowing load cases can occur:
Fu
• Extraction from surface• Pulling through, punching through• Tensile failure in fastener
Fs
• Failure of edge of hole• Shearing failure in fastener• Tilt (only applies to wood)
